Anyone ever smooth a Hawk tank or replace it?

First day with the Hawk and started assembly.

It came with the right side tank plastic on and the left side off.

The side with no plastic looks about a million times better except for the mounting tidbits on the tank.

Anyone ever swap tanks or smooth all that out to delete the dank plastics?

To date, afaik, nobody has gone so far as to shave the tabs and smooth it out. I have considered doing so, but the plastics make a good place to tuck oil coolers into, and form always follows function to me.

I don't run with the tank plastic on. I am interested in cleaning up the tabs too. This may be one of my winter projects.

I thought about removing the tabs and smoothing out when I first got my Hawk but glad I didn't. The oil coolers sit perfect behand the plastic.

While I am all for owning multiple bikes...as I often never have less than 2, I would say it might be a tad cheaper just buying a second tank to attempt this on if one is afraid of damaging the original.

The TT250 tank is a bolt on match for the Hawk, and can be had for $115.

If I was going to buy another tank for the smooth look, it would be plastic. Dent resistant and no risk of rust.

Dent resistant and no risk of rust - trade off is that they aren't crack or shatter resistant and there is the risk of UV deterioration.

That is a pretty handy looking website. Seems to have everything with low prices too.

You will have to buy the gas cap too. It is a different setup than the Hawk.

Which means you have to buy the ignition cylinder, gas cap, helmet lock cylinder, and matching set of keys all at the same time.

For $45.

If you were going to buy a plastic tank for a Hawk 250, where would you get one?

A guy that goes by Fast Buddy Cat on YouTube " worked over his tank if his TBR7D, and I personally didn't care for it. I was concidering doing my Hawk's tank, but after seeing his, I just painted the plastic.
