DongFang 4 seater Electrical problems

I have a DongFang 200CC 4 seater. just one day the engine would not crank from key. If I turn key on and then jump the Starting Solenoid, the cart runs. I replaced the starting solenoid, still same problem. I need to see if I apply 12v directly to the control lead of the solenoid, if it will start, indicating an issue between Key and solenoid. However, now I am am see the headlights DIM when at idle, really bad. at one point the headlight cut out under full throttle. Any ideas,,,, loose Ground issue??? Volatge Regulator???? CDI????

Thanks for any help

Matt

Check all battery connections. Also there should be a safety switch on the brake pedal. Check a make sure it is working. I've also had corrosion on the inline fuse that caused a similar problem.

The inline fuse is super clean. Checked continuity on break pedal switch and it is good (open and closed)... if the Saftey on the break pedal was issue, wouldnt that prevent the CDI from kicking and then the jump on the solenoid would not be effective? Am I by-passing the CDI when Jumping the Solenoid? If so, could this simply be a CDI issue?

Battey connection are good and battery and stater are charging. Could the voltage regulator be the reason for the lack of crack from the key and the dimming lights?

Thanks again

What is the voltage on the battery? Bad cell or week battery will not engage the solenoid.

Battery was new in Dec. Voltage was north of 12v when last checked, I have replace solenoid already thinking that was the source of the problem. I am going to apply an external 12v source to the control lead to the Solenoid to see if it engages.

Regarding Ground. Ground strap from Chassis to battery....or Chassis to engine ....or Engine to Battery?
