Most solid midsize bike in my opinion is still the SV650. Although the MT07 is right there along side it these days. I have been eyeballing the CB650R to replace my much larger VFR the last few months, but that bike is also a slight step above the typical 650 class bike.
The SV650 it’s so damn iconic, solid and really the best overall bike to recommend for just about any damn thing you could think of. very few other bikes in that category.

Here’s the thing about you replacing your VFR, Dan… Do you think you’ll be able to find one in that really unique metallic orange color that you already have?

As I said in another thread, I haven't ridden since I was 14. I'm 43 now. Back then all I did was trail ride. I've never ridden on the road. My neighbor right across the street has 40 acres of trails I can ride. Nothing crazy, just basic trails. I figure I can work my way up to road riding. But all I want to do at this point is ride my basic 45mph back roads.

It has also taken some convincing and a chihuahua to get my wife on board with me getting a bike lol. I've used the "hawks aren't even fast" argument. And truth be told, at this point, I don't want fast. It seems a hawk, from a money standpoint is a good gateway for me. If I end up not enjoying riding like I used too, the so be it. It's not that much money and I can sell it and recoup some.

Tinkering would.be fun. A couple of mods and I'm at 65mph is appealing. I figure I should get 55-60mph stock? My weight does fluctuate between 275-290. The hawk is supposedly good to 330. I don't plan on jumping it or being rough at all. So I think I'd be fine.
I would say the Hawk fits your needs perfectly. I would say at the very minimum, a 17 tooth front sprocket, or a 45 rear with the 15 front, would be about all you really need. The stock 15 front 50 rear makes the Hawk pretty pegged to get to 55, and just barely reached 59. With one of those two sprockets, you could hit 60, although still decently wide open. and cruise along at 50mph with relative ease. No matter what, without the right mods, going faster than about 62mph on a Hawk requires opening up the breathing a bit, either via decat or ebay exhaust.

That orange isn't a factory color anyway, so yeah. Plus, the only thing painted on the CB650R is the tank lol.

I've seen some mixed opinion on the carb. Would it behoove someone to put a better carb on? Or rejet the stock one?

So changing the sprocket, better exhaust, better / re jet the carb seem like the basic upgrades. None of which appear to be terribly expensive.

Will the bearings discussed in this video: (Megadan's?) for the wheels & steering stem be identical for the DLX EFI Hawk? My DLX hasn't arrived yet, but I'd like to order the bearings early. Tnx!

Watch your back, someone in PA was complaining about L on the DMV roster.
The 3 digits VIN starts with LC4 ( I am currently screwed by the dealer)

I'm in the same boat as OP trying to decide which one to go with. The only difference is that I'm at 5600ft and would do some riding about an hour away in one direction at 2500ft and an hour away in the opposite direction at 9000ft. So I think the DLX might be the best choice for me because I really don't want to mess with jetting a lot.

Even with my limited experience with the Hawk EFI (94.4 miles!), I would run, not walk away from the carb version.

I sure would love to know why ? There’s probably a few hundred reg hawks in members hands and very few legitimate issues but every one has a solution .If you can title it there is nothing to be afraid of .The deluxe probably has electrical issues coming with no current work around ,the fixes will come ,but the guinea pigs will have to figure them out .
