Question Hawk DLX EFI speed

Hey guys I would like to know any and every way to make my bike faster or if I could put a bigger engine on the body frame to make it faster

Change your sprockets.

Your signature says top speed; 70. Did you confirm that with GPS? If that's MPH, I can't help you. With a sprocket change, I can barely get 65MPH.

Every since it's been back running I'm only getting 55mph and yeah I was on my GPS on the highway when I touched 70 I think it has something to do with valve space and also and what do you think about a bigger boar

You have to keep things a little realistic. You have a 229cc overhead valve 2 valve single cylinder engine, that at best on the DLX is making 17hp. With the right sprocket setup, 70mph is probably the best you will ever get. These are not high output engines with a big high RPM power peak.

If absolute power is your goal, then this is the path for you. https://motocultparts.com/products/s...43139496870087

Seems expensive, but as somebody who basically has that setup on my carb Hawk, I can tell you it is worth it. He has tunes or his kits for the EFI bikes too, so yes it will work.

Just be aware that, even with that kit and the big boost in power, the absolute fastest I have heard a dual sport like the Hawk do with that setup is 82mph. 75 is more realistic for the average person with reasonable gearing (17/45 or 43 sprockets). 4 to 5 more hp doesn't really buy you a whole lot of extra speed, but on the plus side, 60mph is a total breeze, where a stock carb hawk struggles to do more than about 62 even with better sprockets.

If you want any more than that, just save your money and get a different bike with more power.

That would be a major step up, Dan. As long as you are considering this kind of change, take a look at the new CFMoto 450MT. Not that much more money, but much more performance. Yes, it's another China bike. Could be made of unobtainium for a while though.

Is the 450 MT also called the Ibex? I've seen some media about the Ibex 450 from CFMoto.

CF Moto does have a new 450 Ibex model coming out. Currently the only Ibex they list on their website is a couple of 800 variants

After a little reading, the 450MT is the name for the global market while in the US, it is the Ibex 450.

I see from your sig that your using 17t front and 47 rear, so sounds to me that is a good combo for a stock bike! I might try doing the same thing on my ‘21 250 DLX. I also have an Expro Storm 150 DLX and after riding that for a short time getting on the Hawk feels like sitting on a soft couch…just thought I would add that thought

My friend has the CSC TT250 and has had it for several years. He guided me toward the 47/17 sprocket combo. Funny, he said the seat on my Hawk was much softer and more comfortable than his TT250.

Quick note on those CF Moto bikes. I was seriously looking at them myself before I got my Royal Enfield. I decided against it for one reason, which was several more recent stories of owners having issues getting warranty issues resolved, such as engine leaks and other small part failures. Just a point to consider if you are going to drop thousands on one, they aren't much better than the cheap China bikes we all have.

Irony. I put a TT250 seat on my Hawk because the Hawk seat sucks. lol

As far as cushioning goes the DLX seat is comfy.to me, but recently, I've felt like the dip in the seat puts me a little too far forward.. I've sat on my buddies tt250 and a couple of tw200's, but the Hawk is all I've ever ridden.

Back on topic....

I currently have a jtr269.47 rear. My bike came with jtr269.45 and the 17t front from the previous owner, but he returned the Hawk to stock and gave me the parts on the side. So I worked my way through those before getting the 47. Each one gave me a little better top speed. I also just re-did my valve adjustment. I'm much happier with the results this time.

I don't go on the highway with this hawk. And I don't or haven't really been trail riding with it tho I'd like to. The roads i ride on are 35 to 55 speed limit and I don't stay on the 55 roads for long. My commute to work is only a few miles. I don't chase top speed, but I am curious what it can do.

A 17/47 on most Hawks should be able to easily hit 65mph and will cruise along at 55 nicely, without the engine sitting at 8000rpm to do so.

If you go to www.gearingcommander.com and select the RPS Hawk 250, you can play around with sprocket combinations and tire sizes to see where you end up at different RPM in different gears.

I used it to look at a Hawk on the stock rear tire size with a 17/47 sprocket setup and it puts you at 63mph right at 7000rpm. So it should be able to hit 65 right around 7300, and in theory 70mph at about 7800. with a 45 rear sprocket, 65mph happens at 7000.

In my experience, top speed, regardless of the sprockets (other than the stock), tends to happen right at power peak, which is right around 7200-7300rpm. That is why most people with the 17/45 top out right around 68mph. 68mph also seems to be the limit of the CG250's ability to force a Hawk through the air, because after that, only the smallest and lightest riders can squeeze a couple more mph out of them, even with smaller rear sprockets.
