Blown Hawk Engine

So I think my buddy blew the engine while riding at full throttle on the freeway.

Is there a kit to rebuild the top end, or what parts to buy individually? The cheaper the better for him.

We need to know more. What is your definition of "motor blown up"? In other words ---- Pete is one hundred percent right!...ARH

Let's also clear up some confusion right away.

Top End rebuild kit. On most engines, the "Top End" means - valvetrain and cylinder head.

Do you mean that, or do you mean Jug (cylinder) and Piston?

Good questions guys. He hasn't pulled the engine apart yet and gave me very little information other than it stoped running and wouldn't start again and was making weird noises. I'll report back once he's pulled the engine apart.

Good idea. If he ran it wide open with the original jets in the carburetor very far on the freeway, it could have broken a piston or dropped a valve, since you say it was making weird noises...ARH

I was thinking burnt valve from not adjusting them or a melted piston from a lean condition at full throttle.

Could be something like a push rod out of it's socket.

In NASCAR, we say "Blowed a motor". That broad term that can mean anything from simply a broken ring to a hole in the block.

i am going to guess burnt/broken valve or hole in the piston, if it still has factory jets

Ok, and that is based on the assumption that this bike was ran at sea level or the 5000' feet that it was actually running at?

No, that lean problem is less pronounced at 5000 feet. I must have missed on of your posts, as this is the first I've heard of 5000 feet...ARH
