Can't say Brother Spud. The feelings a father would have are too far outside my experiance to extrapolate.

I think it's similar in risk to motocross racing, race car driving, skydiving, scuba diving, boxing, martial arts, military service, or even doing missionary work in places like Iran or The Philipines.

I'm not going to do it, but as I say there are people who would consider the risks I take to be excessive as well ;-)

I'm not saying he should be prevented from recklessly endangering his life and well being. I'm just saying he is crazy. Is it better to live for God, or to die for nothing? What would Jesus do?

Matthew 4:6-7
Luke 4:9-12

It seems to me that the risk/benefit ratio is unfavorable here.

A Navy Seal is in great risk, but benefits his country and loved ones by defending them. A SWAT officer is at high risk but benefits his or her community. A missionary is at risk but benefits the people he or she serves.

A dirt bike rider, parachuter or any of the other examples I mentioned benefit mostly themselves, but they also bear the risk.

Your Biblical quotations are apt.

Also, I don't know how risky it is.

Some people would think that aerobatic flight is very risky, and it is not. Ditto ultralights or any number of examples.

This has developed into a most interesting discussion! Some might say (yes, I mean my Mother in Law) that dirt bike and ATV riding are unnecessary risks and selfish acts. I suppose it's all a matter of perspective.
