Wow....this thread got me nosing around at tons of tires on the web, that may be an option for the RX3.

Just by tire availability alone, I can see why someone would opt for the 19" front wheel. There's virtually nothing out there for an 18" front, especially in a mostly street tire like the Kenda 761 or Shinko 705. The rear doesn't seem a big problem but the front is a challenge, unless you want a more aggressive knobbie-type tire.

You'd have to do the "front/rear" Shinko 4.10-18 for the front.

Was looking at csc options and realized that the larger wheel/tire option would be the 1st option for my rx4 for sure. . Thanks for your input 2lz

No kidding. The only upside is that for how and where we ride, the stock CST's work well....but that being said, I DO have a birthday coming up in a month or so.... I'm thinking a 19" may be the ticket!

I purchased the 19" wheel because of tire choice, by haven't mounted it yet...still waiting to wear out the stock front tire (at 9,000+ miles).

I think I remember PeterY saying that he switched from the 19" front wheel back to the stock 18" wheel, and was wondering the reason...

I'll be curious to hear how you like the 19" when you get it installed...or notice much difference at all. I don't want to effect the paved cornering ability this bike has.
Also, I wonder if the 19" (with a fatter tire) will bring the speedo remotely closer to correct.

Good afternoon, I would like to know if someone has put a rear tire of measure 140 / 80-17, is that I do not know if it enters or not

I switched to a 19' front, currently using a 100/90 Metzeler Tourance. Also mounted a 120/90/17 rear, same model. No issues with mudguard clearance, plenty of room. Not much difference on paved roads, marginally better on packed dirt, better on loose gravel or sand. Still not a real dirt bike, of course. Speedo error went from over 13% to about 6%, odometer is now almost spot on.

As for the rear, 120/90/17 is about the same external diameter as a 130/80/17. It rubbed the down side of the air box. Temporarily fixed adjusting rear shock preload, after that a more permanent fix was to fit a monoshock extender, Wichita allowed me to loose the preload again, better for rough roads. Bike ended being about an inch and a half taller; had to extend also the side stand, because it was leaning too much.
I think 140/80 will fit, side clearance, but certainly will rub the air box when going over potholes and such.

With the 17 "rear tire you will always brush with the filter box as this motorcycle originally has a 15" rim, that bike is designed for that rim measurement

Hi Edalsaadio, take a look at a photo of the RX3 with 15" rim and compare with the bike with a 17" rim. You will see that the 15" has a much taller sidewall. As I recall, the outside diameter of each tire is almost exactly the same. Maybe that's why it is so difficult to mount the 17" tire on the rim, not nearly as much sidewall to flex over the rim. I'm certainly open to being proven wrong, being an old fart.

Hi Peter, clear of the flank of the 15 "rim is high because its specification n that rim is 130 / 90-15" but one when mounting a rim 17 "its specification varies as 130 / 80-17" is high Since 90 to 80 mm is not much difference since in the end increases in the size of the ring that are 2 "difference, and I checked it since my motorcycle came with ring 15" and I changed it to 17 "and the difference Feels in the height and torque of the motorcycle because you have to change the front sprocket by one of fewer teeth so that it can render in climbs to the mountains or else my clutch discs suffer a lot.

FYI: tire sizes: the first number is the width of the tire, in mm. i.e 130
The second number is height of the tire sidewall, as a percent of the width of the tire, not the height in mm.
the third number is the wheel size.

It seems to work fine with motorcycle tire sizes.
