01 XR 200 with Lifan 163FML

Hey Guys,

I have a 2001 XR200 with a tired out Honda Motor so decided to order a Lifan 163FML for replacement. I'm waiting for it to get in but trying to tie up some loose ends before it gets here.

First I need to find a 13T 520 Front Sprocket but it's been a beotch trying to confirm details of the shaft size etc. Wondering if anyone has experience with this conversion?

Also kinda concerned about wiring. I'm looking to just use the kickstart so wondering if I need an additional wiring harness or if I can wire it to my existing wiring...??

Thanks for any help at all, I was pointing in the direction to this forum from some buddies at ThumperTalk.

Thanks,
Jon

Hello and welcome to the forums! I think a couple of the members here have done XR conversions and I'm sure they will be able to help you out with your questions .

Welcome!

Here's my best guess for the front sprocket: http://www.jtsprockets.com/catalogue/model/692

Welcome! You came to the right place.

After your engine arrives, I recommend you start a new thread regarding your engine transplant in our Other Stuff Forum. I'm sure our knowledgeable and helpful members will be happy to contribute their experience with similar projects.

Welcome to the forum.

+1 on Larry Hooper.

You may want to look in the Other Stuff Forum for my threads on The Dirt Rat (1) which was a Lifan 200 (OHC) transplant into an XR200. Best trail bike ever.

Happy to help.

Does the Lifan have electric start? If so, the stator is likely a different design from the XR. Wiring harnesses are cheap enough, as are CDI's and regulators. Which country are you in?

Of all the bikes I've had, and even since I've been on this board there have been many, the XR/Lifan 200 was the BEST trail bike I ever had.

You may recall I sold that to but the Pitster Pro abomination. Worst trade I ever made.

Except when I traded my freedom and half of everything I had to get married, but that's a different story.

LOL at Doc..

I don't have a wiring harness or a Lifan CDI etc... I was hoping I could use all of that from my XR 200.

Does anyone know if I need to get a lifan cdi or will the honda work??

The Lifan has electric start and kickstart. I was just going to use the kickstart for now.

I used the Lifan CDI.

I hooked up the electric start, but you don't have to. Are you running a battery?

Nope just going to use the kickstart. Does that mean I can use the Honda CDI?

I don't think the CDI cares.

I just used the Lifan one because it plugged in and the Honda unit looked different.

I'm interested in seeing this thing--could you post some pics some time? I've got a Zongshen 200 I'm sort of planning to put into an old RM 125 frame, but that's kind of a long term project.
