Janus 250 vs Dong Feng DF250RTG

Here’s a little comparison I wrote up recently between two Chinese powered 250cc street bikes!

I fell in love with the concept of the Halcyon -- but my wallet led me to the Dongfang. I got mine for $1485 -- and that included shipping. It arrived at my front door 4 days after being ordered. The MCO arrived via mail the next day, and with that, insurance documentation and cash, a 20-minute visit to the DMV got me a title, registration and plate. For sure, components on this bike are cheapest of the cheap, but upgrading the things that simply MUST be upgraded (like ridiculously soft bolts and primitive lightbulbs that look like they were made in someone's backyard hut, and the torturous mini-seat) is easy and inexpensive. For the uses I put it to -- mainly putt-putting around town and fun cruises in the country-- it is a great value for the money. Garners a lot of curious and positive attention, too, which is fun!

Dong Feng also makes the DF-4 (Dong Feng-4, CSS-3) is a two-stage, transportable, liquid-fueled intermediate to intercontinental ballistic missile (IRBM/ICBM) that entered service in 1980. It was expected to be decommissioned by 2005, but one brigade remains operational near Lingbao, Henan province.

Drive is not by sprockets and chain. Also it has no transmission.

I wonder how much locktite they need to assemble that thing? I wonder if the jetting is too lean; I bet the rear sprocket is 56 teeth, the exhaust shield falls off after the third launch, and the chain is junk...

I wonder if this also feels as if it has barely any first gear...?

I wonder if the top speed is limited to 60mph with the stock gearing?
