A great day for a ride.
After work today I wanted to test out my Gerbing electric gear and exercise the KLX and free my mind so off to the local hills we went!
I dropped in on Jerry to admire his freshly restored 1975 Chevy pickup that he bought new. We took it for a local drive in the hills for some mild 'wheeling'. I got home right before sunset (like 4:30! Crap!), and tried to get a pic of the bike with the colors but it didn't really show up. Hope you all had a nice day too. Tomorrow I ride with Roger but he will be on one of my bikes, his WR is not back from Andy's yet.

I'm jealous, Doc. Tornado watches and warnings and such things going on here today. You'd think it was mid April instead of mid November.
How's things down your way, bogieboy.

I hope the weather alerts in the Midwest amounted to nothing for you all.
I'm guessing it must be warm out if there is a risk of tornadoes? Didn't it just snow?? Crazy.

Doc, some of those pics could be Honda ads.

Yes, but I was only teasing. I did mean to say Kawasaki in the first place.
BTW, I have a Team Green bike, and I intend to begin major surgery in the next few weeks.

It's a great color, a close match of the original. It's called 'Mossy Pearl' or something like that. Kind of an olive clored metallic with clearcoat.

A '92 KLR250. I was told the motor is seized, but I haven't verified yet. My new service manual is en route, and I'll start the exploratory surgery soon.
If the engine is prohibitively expensive to repair, I have a liquid cooled 250 pushrod China motor that would be an easy swap. I'd rather have the six speed and 28hp Kawi motor, though. I'll start a new thread soon.

Thanks for posting the nice photos, Doc. Your KLX250S looks great, as usual. It is a very fine motorcycle.

Awesome deal, Weld.
KLX's of that era were 2 valve aircooled, right? Similar to the XR200's? If that's the case I'd suspect any problem limited to the top end should be an easy enough repair for you. If at all possible, I'd stick with the Kawasaki engine. The power diffference is substantial, and a sixth gear is instrumental on the road or highway. That bike should comfortably run at 70+ even up a modest hill or into the wind. You'll really want the power and gearing and you'll get more use out of the bike.

I occasionally get the bug to move up to a Husqvarna, Beta, Husaberg, GasGas, or KTM, but the KLX just suits me better and better as time goes by. It lacks the race bred performance of those other bikes, but I lack the skills to fully appreciate them anyways. LOL! PLUS, after all these years, other than tires, oil, etc, the KLX has cost me NOTHING. Not a dime in repairs or maintanence. Soon though it's due for a valve check (every 8,000 miles) and at that time I'll flush the cooling system and replace the coolant and spark plug.
