I'm gonna need all the help I can get! =)

Not new to forums by any means. Had some previous projects which I enjoyed. Jet Ski and Golf Cart. Trying my hand at my very first 2-wheel cycle/scooter. It's a Roketa 250. Which I've seen falls under a million different other names, But the exact same bike. 08 model with 12k on it. I would say it's deff broken in. The 1st owner deff didn't take care of it. Missing a lot of diff things. 1 bolt here, body panel there. I'm determined to get it back into shape since I purchased it from the second owner. An old man that never really went anywhere on it. In fact it odometer had turned 1 mile since the odo reading on the title that was issued to him 2 yrs ago. So it's been sitting up. Stupid me would run it just to try it out and it's not running too good. Drained the oil and went back with a 10W-40 Sythetic. Replaced the spark plug. Fixing to drain the gear oil and thinking about going with a 75W/90 Synthetic. After that I"ll try my hand at cleaning the carb. Lastly I've got to get a new wiring pack from the rear brake and turn signal lights. Looks like someone attempted some home wiring and there is only one bulb with plug. The rest of the 4 are missing??? I like fun projects... Help me keep my sanity.... Any comments to tell me what I'm doing wrong are always welcome and maybe what you did. Also pointing me in the right direction on what section to read from that pertain to my bike or covers most bikes in regards to maintenance and other things.

P.S. All in all it's not all that bad. Picked it up for $600. Won't take much to get it back on the road...

Welcome; you came to the right place. We are glad you joined us.

I recommend you start a new thread in our Scooters Forum. If you post photos of your scooter we can help you better to fix your problems.

Welcome to the form! Happy to have you. Your mechanical ability will serve you well, I don't think that you will have any big problems. Any snags that you hit, some of the members here are very skilled and will be able to help you. That is one of the highest mileages I think I have come across on one of these bikes were scooters, except for Spud's bike.

One thing I am not clear on… Is this a motorcycle or scooter? I am not aware of any of these motorcycles having a separate transmission oil… I want to know exactly what's going on there. My understanding also is that the scooters use variable belt transmissions, so they should not have any gear oil either. Maybe they have a final drive? I have never had a scooter.

Welcome!

I didn't know that a Roketa maxi scooter was available. I'd love to see pics.

I agree with 75W90 synthetic in the gearbox. You can run just about any oil you wish in the engine, because it doesn't have a wet clutch. The 10W40 you chose is just fine.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I appreciate it! I will do 2 things you all suggested. I'm going to post a new thread with info on the rework of the bike and post pics as well so you can get a good idea of what I'm talking about. Especially around the area of the gear oil which it does call for but from what I've been reading so far you're right. I thing it's just a final drive! Here is a link to where I've found all parts and manuals if anyone wants to take a peak at pics of the original look. Mine is still factory colored Red. http://www.roketa.com/product/produc...=0&proID=27312

There are a lot of parts as in screws and bolts missing along with body panels and so on.... Looking to get it stripped... Which is what I've already done. Maintenance it to the full and put back together all parts! One major part I noticed it's missing is the air box. The intake is just wide open with nothing attached to it..... Who goes and takes that off on purpose?

Great link to that Scrappy Dog! Found a lot of parts on there that are cheaper than the distributor!
