another wont run without choke on at least 1/2. 250 hawk

sorry for the 100th person complaing about shutting off when choke turned off. i installed the mikuni carb with 120 jet. i have upgraded the pipe exhaust too. leaning the idle screw doesnt help. warmed up to operational temps and bike runs great top end and bottom. problem is choke is half on and quits when turned off while ridng. i cant even pump the throttle to keep it runing. all i adjusted factory mikuni was th jet. should i have messed with mixture/fuel screw or used 115 jet or lower? here is a pic of my mikuni.

Usually for me when something doesn't run without the choke it's because it's not getting enough airflow through the carb to pull the fuel with it. I would just check for any leaks around the intake of the bike. You can try running it with the choke on and then spray some carb cleaner around the seals of the intake and listen for an increase in rpm. If there is then that surface isn't sealing like it should.

look into the intake end of the carb and move choke to all positions to make sure where on is and off is. some of the Chinese buggers are upside down to normal thinking.

Half choke is half wether upside down or right side up. Im struggling with erratic idle with oke off. Runs great half choke. But idle is high. No doubt i need a bigger pilot jet. Sounds like you do too, if you have no intake leaks

most will run at half choke but if your putting it to full choke it will die thats why i mentioned make sure which was is on and off by looking into the carb for the butterfly position.
