One More Day

Tomorrow, January 8th is Mrs.C's very last day of work. She and Nurse Toomey are retiring on the same day.

The staff at the school Mrs.C works(ed) at had a small party for the both of them today. Nurse Toomey has been there 20 years and Mrs.C has 26, 32 years if you add the six years she volunteered at Meadowdale before getting hired there. The running joke about Mrs. C's long time in the school district is that "She came with the building".

The school social worker has a great sense of humor and bought both of them wheeled walkers.
What was really funny is both were dressed in the color of the walker they received.

The last day of work for the two of them is said to consist of walker racing in the halls and telling management how they really feel. Both have been heard to say. "Whaddaya gonna do, fire me?"

I hope Mrs. C has a very long, and happy retirement.

I'm sure that you can find a way to squeeze a Zongshen motor into that walker frame. Congrats on Mr's C's retirement, I'm living testament that it's a full-time job.

I'll know that this afternoon.

The 'grown up' retirement party is this evening.

Congrats, Mrs. C! I know what it's like to come with the building; Jan 3 was 27 years for me, but I get time off for good behaviour every year.

Little bit of a bump here.

Mrs. C got a call on Sunday from the school districts' head of HR; they go way back which was why the call was made on a Sunday, and asked if she could sub as a receptionist at the Admin building on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week. She accepted and is now in the sub pool.

She enjoyed her first day and told me it was the easiest job she ever had. And she gets some extra pocket money.

I'm sure that full retirement is only temporary for most folks. This sounds like a sweet deal.

my mother did the same when she retired about 15 years ago. the company would call her back to fill in when someone was out sick or vacation. it was just enough to give her something to do without becoming a "job". it actually worked as a nice transition. eventually, as her retirement activities picked up, she gave up the work part, but was good for a period of time.
