I just put a little snippet on Hawk Talk about adjusting valves. I hope it helps you. I agree with your statement. I too would make sure the valve clearances were spot on, then, if that doesn't resolve the problem - explore further....ARH

Did you remove the carb?

Do you have the smog stuff still on that would be the only place that any vacuum would be produced.
There is a vacuum takeoff on the intake manifold. I still have the smog thing coming off the side if the cylinder. I have it plugged. The carb itself. Ill check all these spots before I have to more or less remove my engine so I can get to the valves again. You guys have it easy with the blaze you have to drop the engine to get to the valves and there is a lot more to it then it sounds.

Ok here's an update:
Vacuum is not the problem. Valves not the problem. As I was taking the bike apart I was checking everything I had touched and lo and behold I found a spark plug with almost NO gap?! (what a sap) After giving it the right gap the bike seems to be running better then ever. It doesn't take as long to warn up and it idles better. Iam going to take a trip to the top of the world and check it out.

Stock dropped NGK plug. I must of dropped this plug when I was working on the valves. Glad I always look at the easiest fix first. Now the bike has that sewing machine sound I've read about.
