How do your Bums do it?

So I just came back from a 3-day back road discovery ride. To get to our first starting location we had to trek about 200+ miles to the starting point. I thought the RX3 seat was pretty good but buy the time I headed home on day 3 my Bum was seriously sore. Mind you I can put 500+ miles on a goldwing any given day and a good 200+ miles on my CB500X no problems. So how the heck are people putting on thousands of miles in a week? What seat coverings if any are you guys using? Pictures or links helpful. Thanks in advance.

Aftermarket seat! The stock seat was only good for about 100 miles so I ordered the optional seat from CSC. It's much better than stock and not horribly expensive. For real comfort I'd want something like a Russell Day Long but the $400~$550 price seems excessive for this bike.

You might try something like an AirHawk or similar pad. You will still have to deal with the fwd cant of the seat.

So CSC has a few aftermarket seats. Which one is better for longer rides? You are correct I think k it's the step in the seat that's the problem.

I'm 5' 11" and could not handle the stock seat. Too scooped and it pushed me into the tank. Got an Airhawk DS pad and was very happy. Allowed me to sit near the rear of the seat. Made the bike feel "right" for me, and no problems with 300 mile days. Then I got CSC's tall seat. Marginally better than the Airhawk. Main advantage was not having to fool with the separate pad. The Airhawk was the cheaper option. Both the pad and CSC's seat worked well in terms of comfort.

Like NoVa, I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam. I got the tall seat since I could use the extra height for a bit more seat to peg room. On the Zong I still get off the bike every hour or two just to move around. Since I try to avoid the Interstate on the Zong it's easy to find an excuse to walk around a bit. This also helps deal with the vibration I get from a lighter bike rolling over our less than perfect highways.

I have the seat concepts tall seat. Highly recommend it! So much better.

I just use and Airhawk. Did 4000 miles in 10 days with it no problem. I use them on all my bikes. It needs to have barely any air to work correctly and you'll think it's deflated at first. It basically keeps you barely afloat over the seat with no hot spots.

The bigger Stelvio is worlds better if your going more than 60mph though.

Seats are such a personal fit type of thing, the Seat Concepts tall seat is a world of difference but I still get some discomfort after 2-3 hrs. So I throw either my sheep skin or airhawk on to change it up a bit.

Yep, love the tall seat. Vast improvement over the stocker...but it is still quite firm. I'm sure it will soften over time like all seats. Thing is though we may do 2-3 hours at a whack, then de-saddle for a stretch anyway. Then you're good-to-go again after just a couple minutes.

Airhawks are very good, especially if you have the inseam for the extra inch or two. The stock seat was very low for my height.

Airhawks are not inexpensive but they are a good product.

I have the Seat Concepts narrow seat CSC sells for the RX3 and I also used these Moto Skivees padded undies when I did the Iron Butt 1000 on my RX3. They worked well on the long ride

, Only discomfort was from heat build up in the crotch on the 2nd leg of the ride

so I stood up every now and then to get some ventilation down there. rj

+1 on the shorts. I will use padded bicycle shorts on the dirt bike under the kevlar for extra comfort. They do get hot though.
