Anyone install one of these USB phone chargers on the bike? I did question tho...

Well I bought this USB charger for my bike for my phone but I had a question on it as it has no power switch on it and a blue led light is always illuminated. Will this drain the battery on the bike or is it such a low wattage that it wouldn't really do anything unless it was on for weeks? This is what I bought...

Right now I unplug the negative terminal when I am done but one of these times I'll forget....

the blue LED uses so little power it would take months to bring down the battery if the battery is in good shape. you can always run it though a relay that is controlled by the switched ignition power (tap off running light)

Not the same one but similar. Mine has a blue light as well. The light lasted maybe a couple weeks before it stopped working. The charger still works fine going on almost a year.

Maybe for just to be safe I will disassemble the unit and cut the cord to the LED. Btw I installed it in the center of the handlebars pointing up I wrap the cord around the upper handlebar brace to the phone works good keeps the phone charged. I ran the power lines under the gas tank and without removing the gas tank zip tied it to the frame (If you have big hands I would probably remove the gas tank as its not the easiest to do with smaller arms/hands. I installed it in the center in case I want to add something to the other side of the handlebars because its nothing you really need to see while driving.

I wired mine to pull from the small aux light in the headlight. That way its off when the bike is off, and i can also kill it with the headlight switch. Works great so far! Ive had both my phone and external battery charging off of it.

I wouldnt recommend wiring anything high current this way,(like hand warmers), but something like this should be fine.

I don't have that one, but here's what I did install:

The LED on it probably draws just a fraction of 1 watt. So it alone won't be responsible for your battery dying. But if you put the battery on a trickle charger it definitely won't matter.

Also, if you buy one of these big ass batteries, it really won't matter...

I finally found the USB adapter is what was draining my battery after 4-5 days. Unhooked it and the battery was good after a week being out of town....

I ended up buying the 12 cigarette lighter adapter and plug in the USB charger when I need it. With wiring, adapter and USB charger, it was about $25 in total
