Airbox hack not working out

Air box hack not working out. Going back with stock box. Just will mount a pod filter inside. Picture is from a very short ride.

As far as I can tell, his is mounted to the carb.

Also, as far as I can tell, the fender did it's job about as well as it can do. Even with an intact air box that mud will get almost everywhere.

I cut my airbox a bit different than yours and have the filter tucked up on the inside, and to this date it has been better shielded from direct tire blast than it was stuck to the carb, but it is also surrounded on most sides and sitting in a higher position.

If your plan was to ride in a bunch of wet environments, then a full airbox will always be a better idea. Either that or you could consider the trash can mod http://www.chinariders.net/showpost....70&postcount=2 for better shielding around the edges. The main idea of cutting up the air box was to keep the functionality of protecting all of the electrics like the CDI, battery, relay, main fuse. In that case, as far as I can tell, it worked out.

Ok, in the photos it looked like it was connected to a foot long hose. I thought maybe a snorkel attempt or something was going on.

I think you are looking at the breather filter to the crankcase vent hose. The air filter is the red/black one on the far right side of the pictures.

Looks like a hose to me as well ,is the carb on a hawk behind the rear shock because that’s where the filter looks to be .

If the pod filter is stuck to the carb directly, it ends up as you see here.

I have my pod filter extended back behind the rear shock into the air box cavity via a silicon tubing elbow.

Bruce and Chip, like Dan says, you're looking at the breather on an extension hose. Look a the far right side of the pic, and you'll see the red edge of the pod filter. Here's the pod filter installed on the carb for reference:

It makes sense now. I thought we were supposed to block that breather off with a PCV though.

That is some peoples preference. I prefer to use a breather filter to replace the original air box fitting as I prefer more neutral crankcase pressure.

I agree. I've seen what happens when a PCV valve sticks shut.

what size filter did you put on the crack case hose and the other hose connected to the nipples on the air box?
