'Just a dab will do yah'... you don't use much, just like HB said, using too much can push the 'excess' into your engine/transmission/bolt holes and that would be a bad thing... what I was saying is, after proper use and HondaBond makes a seal, I have never had a problem with it breaking down and causing problems (leaks or engine/transmission failures).

I have had good luck with honda bond as well as Hylomar sealant.... John deere sells it as a sealant... (I get it from work... perk of being a trade mechanic...LOL)

How does this even happen to an engine?

Is this the result of too tight of a piston to head clearance I.e. Did the connecting rod stretch too much during high revs which allowed the piston to hit the head?

Did the valve hit the piston? If the valve hit the piston I would expect the valved to be damaged. In the picture it looks fine.

What caused this?

I know mate, thats what im trying to figure out, im going with over revving, its not oil starved all the internals are sweet, ill check valves for bending, could be what piston is made of? Lower quality alloy? One thing i noticed is the rear suspension linking to the swing arm & frame looks incredibly flimsy? No way that could handle even a moderate jump, might just have to keep this as a spare bike for fun, get xr600 again i think,

I think it was just a 'weak/low quality piston' that made it into that engine... some year/models of Jeeps had similar issues with a 'weak/low quality piston, piston rings, and ring skirts'... with no warning they would just give way/blow out the side of a piston... If it can happen to big name Auto Makers like Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge, I'm sure a 'weak/low quality piston' could show up in a Zongshen/China engine

Here is just one of thousands of "Jeep Piston Failures" found on an image search

Yeah mate allgood, whole f!@n time it was old fuel! She was running great till it suddenly it stopped,

Then i remembered the gear puller i used was a 3 prong grabber type i managed to bend the flywheel out from center housing thus eventually destroying the stator, not to worried tbh, got new one on the way, $80 flywheel & stator,

More happy the timing is bang on, for the life of me I couldn't find any documentation on the 2 timing marks on casing, then it hit me ,the most obvious one would be the one seen through timing hole duh,

One thing im stuck with is the fuel tap is alot lower than carb? I read somewhere that the outlet hose on the inlet manifold is somehow plummed into tank?or has something to do with vacuum suction for fuel ,any body shed some light on this?

So just wondering about reinstalling flywheel, it sits quite a bit out needs to go in about 8mm its pretty tight on there now, ive given a decent tap with rubber mallet but still sits out too far
Any way of getting it in more to seat correctly? I destroyed stator by this sitting out to far
Cheers

sounds like you got one of those fancy fuel systems - it probably doesn t have a shut position on the petcock? haven t looked into it, but you ll find the info. it has a balanced line and a kind of junction box. i like the simple style better, but that has a different petcock. anyway, the petcock being lower than the inlet is no problem.

Ffs!!!!!

So, after all this, got her up and running sweet, then she dies, check timing its way out, went to reset everything on pulling out flywheel i found its shifted & woodruff key is destroyed? Wtf ? I don't mind the rebuild but am i wasting my time here fellows? Is it worth getting new woodruff key only to find it will destroy its self again? Bike is doing my head in
Check out pics & tell me if it's worth the rebuild?
