Lifan 200cc carb settings, need help.

Lifan 200cc in XR200 frame, having carb setting problems
So I put the lifan 200cc engine in my xr200 frame, but in order to mount the battery I had to put it in the air box. That leaves me with using a pod air filter on the stock xr200 carb and I can not figure out the right jet and or needle setting, nothing seems to work. Has anyone done this and have an idea of at least where to start? The best I could get it running was with the needle on the middle setting, fuel screw 1.5 turns, #40 pilot jet and 110 main with the pod air filter covered about 3/4 of the way. But this only works untill it gets warm then just dies when I take the choke off. I got the engine brand new so i assumed i didnt need to verify the timing and valve clearances, was that my first mistake? Any help appreciated

Don't worry about timing but I'll bet the valves are too tight.

Timing should be fine, unless you have to have electric start, I'd just put the airbox on, and after the motor has cooled properly, adjust the valves. You don't need the e-start, I kick started my Zongshen 200 all the time.

Yes I do have the electric start, if the bike were only for me I'd just use the kick start but my wife needs the magic button. I may just have to try and find a different way to mount the battery or get a much smaller one. I just dont want to spend over a $100 when I was able to a great working battery for $30.
