TheGageinator's Renegade 50cc scooter Log
I have a thread going on my SunL atv, now I'm going to start one on a 2010 Bashan Renegade 50cc moped scooter i just picked up. I got It for $50 non running with a busted clutch and missing belt among a few other issues. The scooter had 2,281 miles when the speedo cable broke.
Initial issues: Busted clutch Missing belt Rear brakes removed Key switched replaced with toggle switch No gas cap Exhaust removed and no gaskets or hardware Janky bendix All plastics busted up and cracking at mounting points No title I got the scooter running yesterday by cleaning the carb and fuel pump, flushing the fuel tank, and replacing the fuel lines. It runs great at cold start, but when it warms up, it doesn't like WOT and will die on sudden WOT. Made my first parts order on Amazon : clutch, belt, gas cap, exhaust gasket and hardware. I'll be posting lots of pictures and videos of the process. Feel free to add any input! |

Went to do a valve adjustment last night, because why not. I have only let the engine run about 3 minutes or so total, but it sounded a little noisey. I pulled the 4 5/16 bolts out of the valve cover and some thing didn't look quite right on the intake rocker.... The lock nut was missing! And the gap was about triple spec. (.05mm)! I started to get really worried.... There is a small nut in the engine somewhere.... Great.... I decided to get a flashlight and look around. To my utter amazement, the lock nut was just inside the timing chain tract on its way to the bottom of the engine!!! It must has literally JUST come off. I couldn't believe it. If I had just run the engine a little longer before, I could have ruined it.

Nice catch. Then the word around here is to do the adjustment with a COLD engine.

Muffler mods. I cut the end of the muffler off and drilled through 2 chambers to gain some flow. It doesn't do any good to drill the first camber, gotta drill through the 2nd also. Made some 1/2inch holes. Re welded the end cap on and buffed out the chrome tip. Sounds awesome.
