Sunny TRIKE 50cc MTB-14 SCOOTER ANY GOOD?
While waiting for my 200cc Dual Sport to arrive I have
been looking into getting my wife a trike of some sort. She has a bad back, and does NOT need to be on a "big road" and 30MPH would be way more than sufficient for her to ride around the subdivision roads by my side. She made it clear although she wanted to ride, she did not and was NOT going to get her trike license. And that means (where we live) she has to stay 50cc and under. Sooooooooo, I had her look with me on the MotoBuys website, and this is the model she liked best: http://www.motobuys.com/mc-dka50t-sun-trike.html Are these worth the $1500? She hates the "tricycle" looking ones (2 wheels in the back) and insists on a "reverse trike or nothing" Any info will be much Obliged.

What about 4 wheels? Lots more options with 4 wheels. Ask your wife if you can tell us how tall she is and how much she weighs?

That is pretty neat. I think for the riding described you will be fine. Scooters parts are easy to get. Not sure about the front end parts.
Unless you have big hills it should pull 30mph. The CVT can be modified to increase low end power and/or top speed.

Kind of high priced for a 49cc scooter, even with the 3-wheels. But with a bad back, and not having to fully balance a 2 wheeler, I understand the reasoning.
I would look into Ice Bear trikes, too, which have the dual wheels in the back. http://www.icebearatv.com/50CC-Trike16 Call them up, and while the young woman with the thick Asian accent might sound mean and poor customer service while telling you several times they only sell wholesale, you can probably get a few online retailers out of her like I did. You just have to pry a little...come to think of it, Motobuys does sell Ice Bear products, too, and they have 3 different 50cc trikes in stock, but a little more $ than the Sunny... http://www.motobuys.com/ice-pst-4-sunshine-.html http://www.motobuys.com/ice-pst-4-sunshine-.html http://www.motobuys.com/ice-pst50s-9.html But, like I said, I think the dual front wheel trike setup does require some riding practice (the leaning while cornering part) vs. the dual real wheel trike setup. Just a thought...

Thanks for the replies.
Like I said, she does not care for the trikes with the 2 wheels in the back. I wish she did. If so, this model looks beautiful http://www.motobuys.com/enlarge.html...-brakes-26.png As to 4 wheels, it is not legal to ride a 4-wheeler on the roads here. Even though 90% of our riding would be through subdivisions, the roads that connect them are 30 MPH roads and must have a licensed and insured vehicle to travel on them. Unless you are driving a lawnmower or farm equipment! Was really hoping to hear from someone who owns one like was in the original post. Maybe an owner will chime in. I found out they are powered by the GY6 engine and there is TONS of aftermarket goodies (and "secret" overbore kits for more torque!) for that engine. I already own a Roughhouse 50cc 2-stroke scooter, but she does not like it. :-/ It had been de-restricted and can run an honest GPS verified 48 MPH with my 165# but in the seat on flat ground and no headwind. Going up anything more than a 2% grade slows it down dramatically. My wife is 4' 11'' and somewhere between 210 and 230 lbs. Yep, she is chunky, but I love her none the less!

The plus is that a whole engine is cheap.

Will a 150cc engine fit in the chassis of a 50cc scooter?
Only reason I ask is there is a 150cc Daykum/Dawson/Dykum/Dawoo something 'ta 'nother brand (Made in China) 150cc scoot for sale down the road for $150 that I am sure $100 in cash would buy. ODO shows 311 miles on it. BUT, the current owner got blitzed (drunk) and took it off roading through the woods behind his house and managed to absolutely destroy every single plastic body part on it! AND, it has no title. You see where I am going with this, right? 1) Buy a "50cc Trike" so no special license needed. 2) Swap in a 150cc motor to pull my wifes heavy ass around! 3) Ride with her and make sure she does not exceed 35MPH!!! ( The maximum legal speed limit for riders of 50cc scooters that do not hold a full motorcycle license in Tennessee ) I see the trikes are "Chain drive". I bet I could swap the sprockets out limiting the top speed if the 150 motor was installed. Just have a stout low speed trike. LOL Who knows. Last night she said "I want to ride by you, but I don't want to spend the $1500" So what started out as her idea a few weeks ago, may come to an end and this entire post was a complete waste of time. WOMEN! Geeeezzzzzzzzzzzz. ( She may end up with one anyways!!!! ) Remember, we HAVE a low mileage Genuine RoughHouse50 that she COULD ride if she just was not so scared of being on 2 wheels, and if it were about 2" lower to the ground.

The answer is yes it may fit. Depends on the scooter frame.

I like that reverse trike. I can almost guarantee that the reverse trike design is more stable than the tricycle type.
