differences in the lifan 5 and 2
what are the differences between the lifan lf200gy-5a and the lf200gy-2?
Every site i look at the bike looks different. I was just curious to know which is better to get? thats a gy-5a with the fork guards and etc.. thats a gy-2 i talked to hoopers imports, the gentleman told me that they stopped carrying the gy-5a and instead carry the gy-2 now. It looks like the plastics are different, and not to mention the length and width specs on the bike. Can anyone give me a solid comparison? |

This has been discussed quite a few times over the past year and is always a good question.
It seems with all of the importers of the Lifan's both the GY2 and GY5 can be made very similar. Front and rear disc brakes, OHV or OHC engine, inverted forks, etc. American Lifan may have specific differences in the way they import the 2. Bruce or RPM can comment on that. There are some differences in wheel base and seat height but not much. The one true difference that I can find is the battery placement and mounting. The GY2 has the battery hanging off the back of the frame and it was plastic (still true guys?) The GY5 has the battery in the frame in metal just behind the carb and under the front of the seat. (And btw the GY5 is a great bike!) |

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the GY-5 model comes stock with a 17 tooth front sprocket and 46 tooth rear sprocket, and the GY-2 is geared differently. The GY-5 can hit 65-70 mph stock, but am not sure of the top stock speed of the GY-2

So essentially they are the same minus the plastics? I know my gy5 came with the inverted forks aswell but I saw also hooper imports stopped selling the 5 so they could get the 2 with inverted forks.

Here's a picture of my new Jialing Viva VX200SX. It is basically a GY-2. I was surprised to find out that my Viva has the OHV pushrod engine. I was also very surprised to find out that the American Lifan GY-5 also has the OHV engine. The newer bikes, I would have thought, should have the OHC engine. Both are good engines but the OHC is more desirable from what I understand. The Viva like all the GY-2s has the battery mounted on the side of the bike. This will be changed on my bike soon.
Personally, I like the GY-2 just a little bit more. The plastic is really nice and the rear fender is a quality piece that's low enough to keep mud off your back. The bodywork just flows a little better on the GY-2 IMHO. Don't take offense that's just a personal opinion. I still like the GY-5 a lot.

I dont take offense, both look really nice to me .
I'd say the front fender (and the 5) are probably the part I dislike most on the gy5, but I like the setup of the bike, everything seems easy to work on, Ive had all the covers off many times, and dropping it all Ive managed to damage was the brake pedal |

2 comes with a 56t sprocket and lower seat height. I like everything about the 5 better except for the way the front turn signals are mounted.

The 2 looks almost identical to our Roketa RSX200E with the exception of the engine.

I like the way those blinkers are mounted. I sure wish mine were like that the other day when I was trailriding and slid off into a rut and crashed on my blinker and crushed my mirror. The blinker would have probably survived! I'll probably change my mounts when I get another blinker.

The GY5 also has a much bigger gas tank. Almost twice the capacity of the 2.
