As far as I could tell the only thing the remote start and alarm had going for them was the ability to suck the battery dry. I removed and pitched as soon as I could

JerryHawk250 has a nice add-on Alarm/remote start/kill system. I have the same system, but I only installed the alarm. The system is called BlueFire Motorcycle Security Kit and it is sold on Amazon for $18.99. I didn’t expect much for that price, but it was rated really good.

The problem with motorcycle security still comes down to the nature of the thing being "secured". A Chain and lock can be cut. A brake disc lock can be defeated, a steering lock can be broken or simply ignored, a loud noisy alarm is often ignored by most other humans - so it doesn't call any attention to the crime.

All they really do is keep honest people honest, or hopefully annoy or tie up said random theif enough that they give up and ditch their efforts. Most bikes are often stolen by simply lifting them into the back of a truck or a van.

I also question the safety of a remote start on a bike. Accidently leave your bike in gear and for whatever reason the starter isn't disabled? Then it will lurch forward, fold up the side stand, and lay your bike on the ground.

I only secure my bike at places I am regularly parked, such as work and home. At work I have a metal pole I can chain to, and I put on a disc lock. At home I have them in my garage. If I leave for any length of time I will then chain them together and to my work bench, and apply a disc lock. I will often also bury them in such a way that it is inconvenient to get them out.

All of that aside, I still accept the fact that a person who really wants them will steal them. So, I keep enough insurance on my bikes to cover that loss.
