12k miles across South America on Rx3s

Nice, informative article about how to make a tour across South America on "disposable" Chinese bikes.
The riders didnt consider them disposable after 12,000 tough miles.

I'd say that if a bike can be trouble-free for at least 25k miles as i believe the RX3 has proven (and RX4 by association) then its definitely not disposable, that amounts to 7-8 years for me. Heck if you go by depreciation alone and say 1k per year on the conservative side then these bikes pay for themselves after 4-5 years, not a bad proposition.

More proof, if any was needed, that the the RX3 is more than up to touring around the world. Anywhere that you want to go, it can take you there, economically and dependably, as well as with less logistic hassle, since you don't have to ship your own bike; you can just buy one sold under the local importers brand, and then sell it when you are done with it.

I've had mine going on six years and over 17,000 miles, and I can say without hesitation that I have never regretted buying it; my Versys 650 on the other hand, not so much.

What did you not like about the Versys? I've been looking for a used one to check out.
