2-Up? Yay or nay?

So, from a prospective buyer, I'm curious if anyone has played around with riding 2 up on the RX3? I know it's certainly not going to be ideal (especially off road), but let's say for commuting to work and going on mild scenic highway rides with a Significant Other. Doable, or is this out of the question?

My wife loves riding two-up on the RX3. Neither of us are very big, but we have long legs. She said she has at least as much seat comfort, and room to move around as she had on my BMW K100RT, and that had a factory "comfort" seat. I didn't notice any lack of stability with her 120 lbs. on the back, and our helmets didn't knock together as I shifted or used the brakes. Keep in mind that I'm a pretty pokey rider, and the bike was still in break-in mode. I wouldn't expect domestic bliss at 75 mph on that bike, if it would even do it.

The RX3 is rated to carry a load of 300 lbs.

Reading the reports of others you will likely be much happier with the 13 tooth countershaft sprocket, possibly later going to a rear with more than 44 (stock) teeth.

Mild scenic highway and country rides? Yep, tuck a picnic and beverages in the luggage, strap a blanket on, and enjoy the bike and each other.

I'm in northern Georgia, about an hour north of Atlanta.

Only rated for 300 lbs, huh? I'm a hair under 200 myself. Guess I need a new wife!

My wife and I just recently did out first "long" trip riding 2-up. We had traveled around town a bit, and a few short freeway trips before this. We did about 35 miles each way down to Disneyland and back last weekend.

We definitely were not winning any drag races, but we kept up with traffic just fine. The ride was stable and comfortable. I did notice that the aerodynamics were very different at freeway speeds and I felt like my head was getting pushed around a little more than usual. Maybe I need to invest in that larger windscreen?

My wife did say her rear end was a little sore after getting back home that night, so maybe some better padding for her would be helpful.

I wanted to update my post after today's long-ish ride with my wife. We rode the freeway 60 miles to a hiking trailhead and then home again. The return trip was mostly stop-and-go but we were at or near the speed limit on the way there. The bike was EXCELLENT! Not a lot of acceleration available at 7500 rpm, but it hung in there with traffic, plenty of room for passenger and gear, and much easier to crawl through the traffic than a bigger bike would be. For comparison purposes, I weigh 175, she weighs 125...that's the posted load limit right there. Mileage was in the low-mid 50 mpg range.

C'mon, Weld, any touring rider knows that it's not how much weight you carry as it is how that weight is distributed.
