Took a plunge... trying a PP LXR250 EFI - Page 18

I didn't post much about this, but I managed to carry quite a bit of gear under the seat and in the airbox itself. Doing some (much needed) maintenance last week I snapped this shot:

The mustard bottle is my emergency oil (which I never needed) and a dry bag with a pair of big winter gloves and a balaclava in case the weather turned brutal.

Next to the nasty filter you can just spot my emergency self rescue kit comprised of 100ft of spider wire rope and single pulley/double pulley and carribeeners. Behind the dry bag you can almost make out one of the 2 extra filters I carried in vacuum bags. Somewhere under the dry bag is a small "jumper cable" setup we used when the cold temperatures one morning (33F) at Smiley Creek took the wind out of my stock battery.

Anyways, lotsa room under there if you pack it right. And, I did get that filter changed out pronto...I've never had a filter so nasty looking. Especially surprising as we cleaned/swapped them every night during our 9 days of the tour.

So I spooned on a new set of tires last week.

I found that I had 6 or 7 front spokes that were loose; no problem I tightened them up.

On the back I found 4 of the shortest spokes had the heads broken off. Luckily PP had them in stock and I was able to replace them. All of the broken spokes were on the sprocket side of the hub. These are the shortest spokes and I wonder if that contributed to the heads coming off.

I must admit here that I am no wheel expert; I tightened the spokes before we left on our trip and may have over-torqued them. The shortest may have just been under the most stress from this.

Took the bike out for a good hard endurocross type ride yesterday. Perfect weather and a rough trail. Bike did well, even after I looped it out pretty hard. It's amazing how well this thing can take a punch.

With as hard as you ride, i think you better replace those spokes with premium Buchanan's for sure.

For sure!

I was looking into the Buchanan spokes, when I ran across a deal on Cakem CNC hub and wheel assemblies. I'm going to give these a shot as they were about the same price as doing the new spokes.

I managed to get my hands on the NC300 kit that is seen in the Russian video on YouTube. It looks to be very good quality stuff. I'm pretty happy with the power output of the 250, but at the altitudes we ride a little more torque across the rev range will be welcome. I'm still bench racing these parts and trying to learn from those who know a lot more than I do. If it can be done, a 3mm stroker increase will make us 298cc. 6mm would get us a torque monster 315cc...

This kit has an 82mm piston and cylinder :

Super interested in the big bore kit, for riding on the MX track I feel like just a TINY bit more power from the LXR would be perfect.

Chonda, I don't remember you having much luck with the f.i. mapping. Is this something you could get to work with the big b. Kit?

The EFI software didn't let me fiddle as much as I wanted, but it did a spot-on job of tuning the motor. Perhaps I communicated it poorly.

I have *zero* worries that it will be capable of adjusting to the overbore. Especially after seeing how well it adjusted to the massive temperature and altitudes we encountered throughout our Tour of Idaho.

If there are problems I will report on it here.

Ive had the LXR250f for just over one year now and think that kit would be a great upgrade. Only shortcoming for the bike that I have encountered is that it needs a little more power. Did you get that kit through the description in the video? Looking forward to seeing how it works out.

No, I didn't have the guts to order anything from Russia.

The kits are starting to show up online. Im sure we will see more performance parts for these motors as they become more popular.
