Inserting images into post

I am probably being extremely stupid here (and I realise that by saying this I opening myself up to untold abuse from you guys!!) - but I am having issues inserting images.
If I use the "attachment" button I then can choose and upload my images, but how do I place them in my post? I just seem to have a series of images, without the ability to put any explanations between, or space them out in my post. I tried clicking on them (in the "attach files" panel below) while I am creating my post and dragging them into the post, but that inserts the image and ALSO puts a image hyperlink above, which I do not see in anyone else's reports.
I do have some IT skills, and used to have my own blog and personal website (and have also managed a website for both my work and a charity) so am not a total moron (just poco loco!), but this has me stumped at the moment.

This is what I use and it makes it so simple. Not to mention it doesn't waste any storage space on your computer or the forum computer.

Oh and no need to sign in or create an account. Thats only if you want them to save your pictures for you like Photobucket or some other online photo account.

Thanks SpudRider, I had looked at that post but the final comment saying "looks like it is no longer needed" made me ignore it!
I have a Flickr account, but when I tried linking to there just got the "broken link" icon.
It is just that as we are supposed to be able to "directly upload" it seemed strange that we are being advised to use a separate image host???
I am able to upload images, but just was looking for advice on how to locate them and add text beneath, etc.
I did ask the question about the photo albums we can add to our profile, and whether it is easy to insert images from these, but got no response (http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=12468)

Hosting pics from an external site is fine, but I actually recommend to upload them as attachments right in your post, especially if they're of significant 'importance' and you want other members/readers to be able to view them for years to come. A lot of times, people who use external hosting sites to link to their images will either delete the images sometime down the road, or will let their account close/expire. Then we're left with a broken image (red X) in the forum. I can't tell you how many times I've personally searched topics on forums hoping to find a specific picture, only to find that the image was broken.. and it happens more often in older threads. When uploaded directly to the forum, they'll be here virtually forever.

What I like to do is this.. upload (attach) the image when making your post, and click the submit button. Then when your post is present, click the thumbnail of your image to enlarge it. Then, right-click and copy the image URL.

Click the 'edit' button in your post, and paste the image URL (right-click, paste) in the message field sandwiched between IMG tags. Then you can type in your captions, or whatever, under or over that. Then click 'save'.

Now your image will be embedded full size in your post.

Thanks quadz. Are there any instructions for uploading a .pdf file to the forum?

I tried to upload a .pdf that had pictures and text and the forum said it was to large. In fact here it is linked to my Google Drive account.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_c...ew?usp=sharing

The thing is the forum says my file is too large at 1.34mb and says the limit is 19.5kb. Am I doing something wrong or is that way to small for a file size limit?
