Taotao rhino 250 gear recommendations wanted

I do a lot of low-speed stuff like spraying and spreading. Maybe 1-2mph with lots of weight and over crazy terrain. It would be nice to have a granny gear. Currently I am abusing the clutch. What would you recommend?

drop down to an 11 tooth in front and go up to a 37 tooth rear

You will need a longer chain with that setup so don't forget to order one. Get some Half links to have on hand. I got a bag of them from Tractor Supply Co. It's marketed as #50 half chain link.

Don't worry it is the same pitch and width. The half link will keep you from ending up on the short end of the adjuster or maxing it out.

I haul about 400lbs + 200lbs of me, in and out of the creeks and up some steep hills. That gearing works great. If you can find a 40T sprocket for the rear go for it. Some have found 43T sprockets. The links are somewhere on this part of the forum.

Yes installed a 37t as that was all I could find at the time that fit... still room to spare for a 40t.... possibly more.

If the higher teeth were available I would have bought that.... still tempting to get one anyways.

You can also switch to a 428 chain, JTF259.12 front, and stock ATA250D rear.

These require a 428 chain? How many links are enough? Love the jtsprockets btw, good tip!

If I could do it again I would use the WhyGoStock custom rear sprocket for 530 chain and get the largest size I could for the full amount of torque. (it wasn't available when I setup my Rhino)

Using 428 chain sprockets can be deceiving. Yes you are getting a sprocket with more teeth but the diameter of the sprocket isn't the same as one made for 530 chain. The same amount of teeth on a 530 will be a much larger diameter.

It doesn't matter if its a chain or a belt.... if you are looking for torque you want the smallest sprocket or pulley in the front and the largest sprocket or pulley for the rear.

Remember to adjust a little for the height of the chain.... the part that is outside of the sprocket which will add a little to the diameter.

The JTF259.12 will work but you'll have to use a circlip to hold it in place because the standard retainer won't fit. The rear sprocket you linked won't work. You'll need to order a stock rear sprocket for a Taotao ATA250D, which is also 40 teeth. Chain length is 118 links.
