Since it is missing alot of parts I can easily build it any way I like. It will never be worth much unless I find all the stock pieces that are in nice shape.

I did find some decent looking wheels. It would be cheaper to buy good used than to build up new ones.

The tank and seat would likely be the most expensive pieces besides the new china power.

Also need exhaust.

So looks like.
New engine.
Seat
Tank
Exhaust
Wheels
Chain
Handlebars
Tires
Electrical
Cables
Switches
Pretty much everything that is not the frame.

The taillight is nice.

Those parts are very inexpensive! Chinabike parts would not be cheaper!

Except for the motor many of the things on your list are readily available and inexpensive or scroungeable. Knowing you you'll find most of the stuff on your list on the roadside.

One of us had a 200cc OHC (IIRC) Chinamotor on sale very cheap a few weeks ago...

With a Chinese 200 that bike would do an easy 60 or more with a guy of average weight. I bet the bike would weigh less than 225 lbs.

I have look on ebay already. Most of the parts are pretty cheap and I don't need them to be correct either. I just don't have any funding for it right now so it will go into the back corner and I will have to just watch for budget parts.

The big thing I need to find out is the registration process. Pretty sure that I will be able to do that.

That's a plus!

Is the motor frozen up? Maybe it can be rebuilt, although a new or used Chinamotor would likely be simpler and cheaper.

The kickstart shaft is broken off. I am guessing that it is siezed from laying in the ditch.

A restomod will be a better idea for me. We shall see what is usable.

That's good inspiration.

Are the roads dirt or gravel where you live? Paved? Both? Since this will be a little local bike if its unpaved I'd lean more towards a scrambler configuration. Maybe trials tires. That would look period and work very well.

Jim, I was thinking cafe style.

My riding would probably be on the street, but we do have lots of gravel too. Some dual sport tires would be perfect.

My road is paved and I can ride paved all the way to work.

I was thinking cafe-like as well, although the brat style in the video you linked (not really a bobber) has potential. Making a simple pan seat and upholstering it would be easy and cheap. Since the front wheel is done, I recommend a larger front drum that will handle the extra speed.

We got it up to the shop. It is very rough. The frame swingarm and forks all look salvagable. The wheels are gone.

Upgrade to maybe even a front disc. I would only want to get about a 60mph cruise speed with alittle reserve.

Pics of the rescue. We needed some Ford help.

It was laying in this ditch.

Inside and safe for now.



The LB is for Labette County. Tag is 1973. The bike was purchased locally at the Honda in Parsons, KS which is no longer.

With all the storage available, why would someone lay that bike down in an outside ditch to rust away? :( I'm glad you are restoring that little beauty, Allen.

I think it has been there since before the shop was built. The odometer shows 2400 miles.

I need to soak the bolts in pb blaster so that I will be able to take it apart later.
