DIY Hawk Bike Stand

I'm thinking of building this guy's bike stand. The Hawk has a rated "Ground Clearance" of 8.3", so I was thinking a 9" tall unit ought to do. Can anyone confirm the distance from ground to bottom of bike?

The legs on my center stand are 1'- 1 1//4". That gets the rear tire about an inch off the ground.

By my math, which is getting fuzzier by the day, that's 13.25"

That one looks custom/universal, if you haven't already check out CSC, nicest skid plate I've found but also the most expensive lol

Also, Idk if a homemade bike stand is really worth it lol. I paid 50 bucks for mine and I can just roll the bike over it then lift it with my foot, got one of those hydraulic ones.

To those with disposable income, we salute you. We being those with little or no income.

In other words, it's worth it when you have the materials on hand as opposed to $50 hanging out doing nothing. lol

Bike stand completed...well, almost. Of course I'm gonna sand and paint it.

I use two lifts. I don't always have someone to help lift the bike to set the stand or set the stand while I lift the bike, so I need these. The first one I got was the scissor lift. I use this one particularly when I need the front wheel off the ground. BUT, you can keep both tires on the ground for stability.

Then I wanted to just lift the rear wheel, so I got a swingarm lever. This one is FAST and easy, gets MUCH more use... This one is best for oil changes too.

I used to use a 5 gallon paint can!

I guess plastic milk crates are “out of style “ now ? They get taller by cutting a second one shorter and zip tying them or safety wiring them together .

I use an automotive floor jack with a couple of 2x10s on top. This is not very stable because of the small plate on the jack, so I have two tie-downs coming down from a rafter to hold the handlebars. Works great. But ideally I'd get either a motorcycle scissors lift or just use a milk crate (13" tall), maybe with a couple of 1x6s or 2x6s on top to distribute the load and increase height. Milk crates are plenty strong enough, and it doubles as storage.

The stand in that video looks like the bottom part is a DIY engine stand, with the top part added. You could easily do it that way too.

When I was racing CZ ‘s ,they had a huge expansion chamber under the engine ,so we cut a 6” wide x4”deep channel 45 degrees across the bottom of a milk crate ,and we never broke even one of those milk crates that we swiped from the grocery store .

My rotator cuffs are ripped, both shoulders, in very different ways. The left one is worse. This is a massive disability for lifting, lifting out. But I got this swingarm lever for $40 at Herbie Fright. Adjustable width, and has built in smooth pivot wheels. I am a cheapskate (rather obvious based on my ride!). This might cost $20 more than supplies/time. Worth it to me even if my shoulders worked!!

Man, I hear ya. Diagnosed with scoliosis at age 13, 40 years and 140 lbs. later = back pain that I wouldn't wish on Nancy Pelosi.

I’m getting the CSC skid plate. Has anyone lifted their bike with the skid plate still attached, or am I going to have to pull it off to lift?

Just a random thought but if you can't lift the bike with the skid plate on then the skid plate is a waste of money and only a decoration.
