Jeep developed a bad knock a couple of days ago, and well... I am tired of fixing it every 3 months. Just went and got approval for financing on a basic econo car, a 2014 Nissan Versa sedan with a manual trans and no power options, just AC and a radio - basically my kind of car lol.

Thankfully it actually warmed up just enough that I can ride without entirely freezing to death (was almost 60 degrees today). So in the meantime I will ride my bike and play fun rounds of "Dodge the potholes" until the car arrives from Kansas next week.

I was planning on getting a new truck within the next year or so, but my Jeep must have heard me talking about it and decided to screw my plans up some. It's ok though, the car is cheap enough that I can pay it off quickly, and then I will just trade it in for said truck in a year or two.

I will miss the rusty, oily, noisy, hot, old thing. I have had it almost 10 years now, and replaced or rebuilt almost every part of the driveline in that time.

On the plus side, my girlfriend will actually want to ride with me in the new vehicle lol. She refuses to ride in my Comanche.

My kind of car too. I bought a 2018, same model, when my 25 year old Suzuki Swift finally died. Research says that they are very reliable cars except for the CVT, so the manual trans is the way to go. Love the crank up windows and no key fob. Only thing I don't like about the car is the electric power steering tends to wander a bit on the freeway. I've never gotten less than 40 mpg.

That's the way to buy a car without all the bells and whistles. Less things to break and worry about.

Nice to hear from another owner. I actually was glad that it was a 5spd. I was specifically looking for an S, since the manual was only offered in the base trim. I don't trust CVT transmissions at all, the technology is still too new and to date not many of them have proven to be reliable long term.

It is also nice to hear that the fuel mileage is in the 40's. That is what I was hoping for. Many years ago I had a 1992 Toyota Tercel std. Same basic kind of car, no power options, not even AC, and a 4spd trans. Probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, and I had to TRY to spend more than 30 bucks a month on fuel. It will be a nice change of pace from 15mpg for sure.

That is more or less how I tend to buy all of my vehicles. Unlike others in my generation I grew up to appreciate the most basic tenant of engineering - simplicity is reliability. I have never had a crank window fail on me. I have never had a manual seat get stuck on me. I don't want or need wifi, bluetooth, or other such nonsense in my vehicle. I just need something for the crappy weather, the winter, and for the days I just don't feel like riding. Even if I do get another truck, I will probably just keep it.

Plus, because it is such a basic plane jane car, the price was too good to pass up. I talked them down a grand from their asking price, which was already a fair price - especially considering that the thing only has 60k miles on it, which was the lowest mile vehicle I could find in my price range (cheap). It was likely sitting on the lot a little too long entirely because it is a manual transmission, which 90% of the U.S. population can't drive. It makes a great anti-theft device as well, although I still can't convince my insurance company of that.

If a CVT were the only transmission offered on the Versa I would have bought a different car. Maybe they'll have the longevity issues solved in a few years but they have a ways to go. Manuals are an endangered species.

The one thing I missed having on the Versa S was cruise control so I have a Rostra aftermarket unit at home ready to install.

No cruise on the Jeep, I did have it on the Crown Vic, but I rarely used it. My Tercel didn't have it. None of my bikes have had it lol. I guess it doesn't bother me too much. About the only time I ever really used cruise was on long trips, (more than 150 miles) and even then that was a rare circumstance. I am so used to not having it that using it feels weird to me.

Dan, I have a buddy has a 13 Versa with the auto trans and he has had several problems with it. He said the service guy told him he has a warranty for the trans all the way to 100K miles.

I have not owned an auto car since my 87 Formula firebird. I prefer a standard trans, like you.

Probably the Jatco CVT that everyone runs. Jeep finally dropped it from the Patriot/Compass platform and started running the 6 speed auto from Hyundai.

Yea Jeep ditched the cvt in the early part of Series II production of those models (2011-2017)

Fun fact. I am technically a millennial

All I have ever driven, with exception to my Crown Victoris is manual transmissions. I prefer them.

You are correct though, I have never had a car stolen. Somebody tried to steal my Comanche once. They got about 2 blocks down the hill and gave up.

I've been known to give a second, third, and sometimes a fourth life to vehicles... too bad I'm out of cash for another project vehicle... would love another Jeep to fix up (would be my 4th Jeep)
