Golf Cart Maintenance

I'm a snowbird, and I made it down to Chandler, AZ last week just before the blizzard hit Bismarck. Everything was in good shape here, except I could not get the charger to work on my golf cart. It's a 2002 with 36V system. I charged each battery separately with a car charger and still wouldn't work. I tried to borrow a charger from neighbors, etc. but everyone has 48v carts. Finally I decided to see if I could troubleshoot the charger. Diodes good, fuse good, capacitor(couldn't get it to read until I disconnected the wires but tested good), jumped the relay, and there was 42v to the plug. I was baffled. Then a friend called and said he had a 36v charger.

I brought the borrowed charger home, plugged it in, and it turned right on. What a relief; I was about resigned to buying 6 new batteries.

While the cart was charging, I cleaned up the inside of my charger by blowing the dove's nest out of it, and I put it back together. Guess what, now it works. I guess when I cleaned it up and unplugged everything to check connections, it was just a bad connection somewhere.

I don't know how many times, I've taken electronic equipment apart and can't find anything wrong with it. Then it works fine after I put it back together.

Dirty, corroded, oxidized connectors will be the end of all of us!
