See original post....computer controlled float charger....checks itself and the battery.

I was hoping my second shipment RX3 had the upgraded battery.....apparently not.

Thanks for the link, Joe.

Looks to be the size of a 3"x5" index card. I think I can make room for that.

Didn't think you would need that with as often you ride. Wonder if that computer is like me, not so smart.

BB, I can identify with that...

I have used this float charger on multiple bikes/batteries with no problems.

All of my vehicles have float charger/maintainers on them....bikes, boats, tractor.

In the past, I have had a charger "cook" a battery. When that happens, the charger gets disposed of.

Something caused it to split right? Do you think it's something further , or just battery drama which is a real thing (i had a battery in my Kia sorrento which lasted 6 months from orelielly auto parts that did kookey things like poping up random warning lights . It reported 12 volts but finally left me at a hotel parking lot , new auto zone bat took care of all those problems.)

I don't know what is happening now, but for the first year or two I believe the stock battery in the RX3 was very unreliable. I had mine replaced twice, under warranty, and am finally getting pretty good service from the third battery, a Slasher/Power Sonic battery sent to me from CSC.

https://www.cscmotorcycles.com/Batte...mta-ptz12s.htm

I no longer have my original battery, and I can't remember if it was a "Guyue" brand. I still have the second, bad battery, and it is only marked YTZ12S-BS, without a brand name.

BB, I like that term...."battery drama".

Seems like I have had my share of drama...

The battery looked like it was " cooked", but I don't believe it was the charger. The battery wasn't on the charger since I was traveling.

The morning of the incident, the RX3 started on the first push of the starter button. And at two additional stops, it started fine.

There was no warning that the battery was about to fail.

I suspect it was an internal short.

And Spud, thanks for the feedback on your battery experience.

Since I was on the road, I didn't have the luxury of shopping around for a new battery.

I had to get what was available, and would fit in the battery compartment.

You're welcome, JB. You did an excellent job finding a replacement battery on short notice. Thanks for reporting AutoZone keeps these batteries in stock! AutoZone is located in many communities, and stays open into the evening hours, so it is very good to know they stock this battery for emergency replacement.

My local O'Reilly Auto Parts store also stocks the ETX9 battery.

My local Walmart superstore stocks the EverStart ES9-BS battery.

Apparently the ET9X battery stocked by AutoZone and O'Reilly is manufactured by Deka, in Pennsylvania.

As with JB, my RX3 bike came equipped with a YTZ12S battery. This battery has the following specifications.

https://www.batterystuff.com/powersp...es/YTZ12S.html

YTZ12S Battery

Size: 6.0" x 3.44" x 4.38" (6" x 3-7/16" x 4-3/8")
Amp/Hr: 11.0
C.C.A.: 210

The YTZ14S battery has the same dimensions, and is a little more powerful. Here are the specifications for the YTZ14S battery.

https://www.batterystuff.com/powersp...es/YTZ14S.html

YTZ14S Battery

Size: 6.0" x 3.44" x 4.38" (6" x 3-7/16" x 4-3/8")
Amp/Hr: 11.2
C.C.A.: 220

The following article compares these two batteries.

My Honda XR650L came equipped with a YTX9-BS/ETX9/ES9BS battery, which has the following specifications.

http://www.autozone.com/miscellaneou...ery/350076_0_0

YTX9-BS Battery

Size: 6.0" x 3.44" x 4.19" (6" x 3-7/16" x 4-3/16")
Amp/Hr: 8.0
C.C.A.: 120

This is the replacement battery JB bought for his CSC Cyclone RX3. This battery easily cranks the much larger engine in my Honda XR650L, so I am sure it will also easily crank the smaller engine of the Zongshen RX3.

The dimensions of this battery are almost identical to the YTZ12S and YTZ14S batteries; the ETX9 battery is merely 3/16" (5 mm) shorter than the other two batteries.

My Zongshen RX3 is currently using the Slasher PTZ12S battery sold by CSC motorcycles.

https://www.cscmotorcycles.com/Batte...mta-ptz12s.htm

This batter is apparently identical to the Power-Sonic PTZ12S battery, which has the following specifications.

https://www.mbsbattery.com/Power-Son...medium=organic

Size: 6.0" x 3.44" x 4.38" (6" x 3-7/16" x 4-3/8")
Amp/Hr: 11.0
C.C.A.: 140

For the last 7 years I have been running my Honda XR650L with a Shorai LFX09L2-BS12 battery.

http://shoraipower.com/battery-specifications

If you like lithium/iron/phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, any battery with a C.C.A. rating of 120, or higher, should easily start the Zongshen RX3. However, if you are running a lot of electrical accessories, you might need the higher Ah capacities provided by the lead/acid batteries. I only run heated grips on my Honda XR650L.

The smaller, LiFePO4 batteries will easily crank the RX3 engine, but they lack the current reserve capacity of the larger, lead/acid batteries. Therefore, the smaller LiFePO4 batteries might be drained, and damaged, by the heavy current demand of running many electrical accessories.
