(Thicker style) Fork brace

So I had a read of this post after reading Dan's trick and tips.

http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=19349

I ordered my brace back in april/may last year and I am now getting to put the bike together. I just reread the link and just saw in Nov that someone tried to use the same brace and it was too thick.

I tried to mount it and it didnt fit between the wide part of the forks. Just wondering if anyone else on the forum had tried to use this brace, with success.

This is the brace

I have the same brace. I mashed it together until it fit. Takes a little effort to keep it symmetrical but if I can do it anyone can.

It makes a nice difference in the front end feel of the bike.

I desperately need one of these, do you have a link to the brace? the one in the OP doesn't work. alternatively what should I search for?

thanks, Alex

I found this one but the one I got from ebay I cannot find. It was only $29. I think either of these will work with minor modification. Both may have to be bent a little to fit and of course drilled.

Hi RoundHouse when you say mash do you mean large hammer and some beating to make flatter?

Regards

None of them fit perfectly. They are designed for a Harley and thus require modification. I had to "pinch" mine a little to get it to fit

Cool thanks, will continue to look. I will try and pinch the one I have but it does look like it is going to put some real outward pressure on the forks. As you can see its not even that close, but Roundhouse says he made it work, so Ill give it a go.

The one you have looks a lot thicker than the one i have. The one he has linked on ebay looks to be the same as i have.

So once brain was engaged..... Reshaped using a vice and some thread and bolts.

When you squeeze with a vice the open ends want to fold in together so needing a way to keep them from doing that i grabbed some threaded rod, fender washers and nuts.

In case anyone else has a blank mind moment like I did :-)

Will post fitted pics soon

Smart. I used a piece of 2x6 I cut to the desired length. The bolts may be a better idea.
