Wires coming from below the sprocket

Anyone know what this working is from/for?
Little 125cc four stroke semi auto.

That's for the gear position sensor.

That's what I thought is it normal for the engine to not turn over if that's unplugged? There's no indicator on the quad. Maybe there used to be.

It will need to be plugged in. Neutral position acts as a safety switch so it won't start in gear.

So I've been starting it by jumping the starter relay. Once running, it will not shift. Is there possibly any electrical reasoning behind it not shifting? It shifted fine before these wiring issues I've been having.

It's possible the back of the switch may have broke and is jamming the shifter from rotating.
