Poorly phrased on my part. The "always on" was referring to some bikes that kill the light during starting vs. others that do not. In my personal experience it's usually nicer and newer bikes that have this feature, hence the reference to price.

And I say most bikes, because not all bikes with headlights are street legal and therefore aren't required to have the headlight on at all times. There are also quite a few 40+ year old bikes still on the road.

Good news! The amazing guys at Kronik Racing (Pete in specific) is going to get me a set of pegs as soon as he can. Another plug for this amazing little shop, highly recommend dealing with them if you can for your Boomcat bike.

Bike is up and running but the swingarm bent after about 4 miles. I was pulling away from a stop, I let the clutch out, shifted to second gear, and felt the back of the bike shift rightward while hearing the chain come off of the rear sprocket. I freewheeled into the parking lane once I got through the intersection and saw the damage. Will try to get pics soon but really not looking forward to dealing with this one. The bike ran well and drove well too. I guess it's the territory with a $1000 Chinese motorcycle.

I've been tinkering a bit this winter, but it's too cold to ride in Michigan, so I can't get it tuned in for a few more months.

Upgrades so far:

Removed EGR/Charcoal stuff (not sure what it's called)
-made a block-off plate for the cylinder head port

Knockoff Mikuni VM22 card
-used the stock jets that came with it
-got a thumb screw extension for the fuel/air mix screw
-used the included cone air filter with an angled hose

Semi-knobby tires - links in earlier posts in this thread

Painted the wheels black

Honda CL70 fork boots from eBay

Wire harness for a Battery Tender

Lower handle bars

LED lights - Headlight and rear only
-all lights flashed when LEDs were in the front

Upgraded chain

17 Tooth sprocket in the front

33 Tooth sprocket in the rear

Custom license place bracket

Phone holder

----------------------------------------

I see in one of the photos that I need to adjust the throttle cable at the carb, which I can do by adjusting the nuts at the handle lever. Also, I need to reconnect the carb vent hose and carb bowl drain hose - these both just dangle and should exit below the engine cylinder. The tank vent hose is also just dangling, so I need to secure that down somehow. With this knockoff Mikuni, it starts right up and idles perfectly. With the old one, I could not get it tuned right and would not idle fine until it warmed up, so I would have to constantly give it throttle up and down until it was warm. I'm hoping the carb will give me a little more pickup power to offset the sprockets and I'm not too concerned with going higher than 55mph. I just want it to go 55 at lower RPM's.

If you don't mind tinkering, I think this is a great bike for the money, especially a great first bike. It's not perfect, but I have learned a ton, which I think is worth more than the difference I would spend on a more expensive bike.

Let me know if you want links to anything I used.
Do you still have working links to the carb and sprockets? Did you need to change the chain to fit the new sprockets or was that more of a quality upgrade choice?

cafe racer seat and handle bars

Hi!,

I just bought a boomcat with all the main upgrades people have been doing but I would like to upgrade the seat to a nicer looking one. what website did you use to buy yours? which bike did you use to order the part? CL70? S90?

Thanks so much!

Cafe racer seat

Hi, I had my BD 125 cafe bike for about a month, and love it so far. I’m looking into changing the seat to a more retro brown look. My first attempt was not perfect, probably due to the gas tank being off set from the center. Anyone change their seat with good results? Looking for suggestions on where to get one without too many modifications.
Thank you.

I was looking into this and I so far only found that bikeseatfactory.com sells honda s90 seats which is what this bike is a clone of. They're really expensive and I don't see any brown ones so I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Let's keep looking and see what we can come up with!

maybe we can ask around on the cafe racer FB groups or forums?

rear rack

hi i was wondering if anyone had found a rear rack that would fit the BD125-2?
I was thinking of buying a rack that would fit on a cl 70 and maybe that would work for the BD125-2

So I dropped an order for one of these. My intention is to put an upsweep exhaust and shinko dual sport tires. I would really like to find a silver tank and fenders.

Does anyone know the larges shinko 241's that will fit ? 2.5, 2.75, or 3.0 Thanks, Chris
