no spark

I just bought a new Racing CDI for my 200cc and plugged it in only to get.....Nothing.... I ended up putting back on the original stock CDI and it starts right up. All the wires seem to match up color wise on the new CDI. Any ideas on what my be the problem?

Could just be a bad CDI, which engine and which CDI are you using?

I think the engine is a Zongshen, but it has no markings on it... The CDI is an eBay special.. I attached the link below.

Hi TACyJAC1999

What style engine... OHC=Overhead Cam or is it a Push-Rod engine? This will maker all the difference in the world if you get spark or not.

Im not sure which style it is.. but here are a couple of pics of the engine... If I were to venture a guess I would have to say a push rod style, but I could be wrong.

Also, I noticed that the CDI has an LED on the side that flashes when there is supposed to be a spark, so it acts like it is working

Zongshen Engine, water cooled and it has push rods from cam to the valves on top.

It is the same engine as mine but yours has the water cooled and mine is air cooled.

Easy engine to rebuild too.

I'm no expert here. I'm wondering if it's an AC vs. DC issue. A CDI can be either current, depending upon how the machine is wired.

That CDI in the link above looks like the ones i use on my 50cc-140cc engines, the one for my 200cc-250cc looks much different and i beleive the water cooled CDI is different then the ones i use on my 200cc-250cc engines.

here's what i use http://www.giobikes.com/Performance-...VS-Dirt-Bikes/
