New repops are available for $35US from David Silver Spares.

The sloppy application of sealant has kind of soured me on them, though.

My 3" heat shrink showed today, so I will give the hack a shot later this week.

I'll be interested to learn about the success of the heat shrink.

I hoped to get to it this week but no soap. Working late all week and have a booked weekend of driving to northern Wisconsin and back. Throw in an expected 10" of snow starting tomorrow night along with single digit evening temps.

I'm on vacation next week with no relatives in sight, so I have no excuse not to get them done. Might be firing up the new heater, too.

Here we go.
Step one. Clean the schmutz from the camera lens.

What is needed.
Black RTV. Manifolds. Heat Gun. Putty knife. Scissors. Heat Shrink. Not shown, razor blade.

The crack.

I started by running the manifolds through the ultrasonic cleaner and letting them dry. While they were drying, I eyeballed and cut the heat shrink tubing.

Spread the RTV on the boots. Neatness does not count here. Go heavy on the cracks and push it in. Slime it everywhere else.

Slide the heat shrink over the boot and hit with the heat gun.

Let sit overnight for the RTV to cure.

Finish tomorrow.

Nice job. That is a true, China Riders solution.

Excellent idea. Do you plan to do two layers of heat shrink?

I'll know better when I trim off the excess later today. I may not have enough material left to do a full layer on each.

Mrs. C and I went out Christmas shopping this morning. I bought my present and she bought hers. That gave the RTV a few more hours to set.

Done.

The heat shrink is pretty thick (.062") and quite stiff. A second layer would probably be overkill.

Excellent idea.

I had a 1980 or so XS400 and a 1974 or so KZ400 both of which has carb holder (boot) issues. Finding replacements was a POA, and straight RTV looks like arse. Good work, Cheesy!

There was some luck today, though. I cut and weld, weld and cut, did some grinding, and managed to shoehorn it in the stock location. Just need to wire it now.

Everything came to an abrupt stop about 11AM, when I took Mrs. C to the ER with chest pain and a numb left arm. So far, they confirmed that she didn't have a heart attack but the ER doc had some concerns about her EKG and admitted her. She's been seen by a cardiologist, who will be doing a Stress/Echo test on her tomorrow. If she passes, she comes home. If she doesn't, well, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Well, Mrs. C had her Upper and Lower GI today. She passed. Not with flying colors, but she passed. She had some polyps removed.

Mrs. C is currently curled up on the couch, working on nap #3.

First ride in seven weeks today.

The CX probably felt like I did this morning, slow to get started. Once it started, it settled into a nice idle. I threw on my gear* while it warmed up and away we went. 35F on the ride to work.

Gotta love those AGM batteries. I forgot to hook up to the trickle charger but found out I didn't need it. That battery is five years old, going on six.

*Still got the Village People running through my head when I get into my leather chaps.
