Honda XR200 tank compatibility

A local guy has some parts from an 83 XR200 for sale. I was wondering if anyone knows if the tank will bolt up to a 200GY-2? The capacity is a bit greater and I'd like to get rid of the plastic drag on the stock Lifan tank.

It may work with a few mods, the hondas tank has one bolt at the rear center and it slides inplace on 2 round rubber pieces at the front, just about in the same position where the china tank mounts. other problem would be the seat, it sits higher up on the tank than the hondas if I remember correctly.

If I'm not mistaken, the '83 XR2 had a pillow type seat, no attachment to the tank.

Doesnt the Lifan have a pin on the tank than engages a slot on the front end of a banana style seat?

Sounds like you might generate seat problems with the tank switch.

The 200XR tank will not even stratle the frame, I pulled the tank off of the old junker in the back yard and tried, even if you modified it the seat would have to be cut. Stick with your original tank and make frequent stops.

What is the capacity of the china tank?

I think the '87 and up XR200 is 2.2gal, and uses the pin/slot seat interface.

It bolts to the frame at the front, and rubber straps at the rear center under the seat.

My search shall continue. I'm looking for 4 to 5 gal. capacity. As for stopping more frequently that only works when you are riding in areas with more frequent stops. I tend to wander away from inhabited areas, especially out west.

I'm thinking of a poor man's Dakar kind of bike.
