Need help with sprocket choice
I need to get a sprocket for my bike....
I wanna be able to ride it to work... This means I would have to at times maintain a 50mph stretch for some time...Right now I would be pushing too many RPM's So what should I get?...Keep in mind that I doubt I will do any offloading.. My choices are 40, 42, 45, & 46 |

Well my first gear was still fairly useless, But my bike was a differant bike also. I had a ton of low end on it. Yours might have a differant ratio. Also my bike seemed to post lower top speeds than others with the Lifans and the Roketas on the site....Hope this helps. :?
1st gear 2.759 2nd gear 1.882 3rd gear 1.400 4th gear 1.130 5th gear .960. These were my ratios, I found it on a sales site so I can't say how accurate they really are. But I bet they are pretty close.

When my bike ran, I had a 46 rear and could maintain 55-60 mph without hearing any screaming like I heard with the 56 stocker. Contact Bruce at EJ, and order a 44 tooth Lifan (the stock one for the most streetable stock Chinese enduro (IMO), the Lifan GY-5)

KW4TX
The ones I gave options on are only the sprockets I have in stock. The 43, 44 & 46 are not available aftermarket. The 46's I have are from A. Lifan. I have ordered smaller but only for one person and that was a 38. A 40t or 42t rear sprocket will do OK for what you are looking to do.

KW4TX,
A word of advise. Do your mods, air filter, carb, exhaust, tires if you plan to... (with the exception of the sprocket). Determine what RPM/vibration amount you can comfortably cruise at and note the corresponding speed on your speedo (lets say it's 40mph) Then use this equation. 40(56)=50(x) and solve for x. In this example, it would be 44.8 or a 45 tooth sprocket. This is assuming that you want the desired rpm/vibration amount at a cruising speed of 50mph as you mentioned. This will get you a lot closer than just guessing. Jason

my two cents.
My old sprocket was 56T and the bike would SCREAM with HIGH rpm's when driven at 55 MPH's. I have since changed it to a 46T and It runs a lot smoother. I can comfortably cruise at speeds of 55-60mph's without the bike's RPM's getting too high. and I still do ok off road on trails. and in the grass...
