2018 CSC Baja ride!

Hey all!

Just got home to San Jose, Ca from the CSC Baja trip. I wanted to post while the details are still fresh in my mind. I’m sure most of you follow Joe’s blog so I’ll avoid being repetitive and just relay my impressions from the trip and meeting the folks at CSC. My trip began with a run down 101-152-5-210 where I met Joe at the CSC shop. He was friendly and welcoming to all of the folks as they arrived. I was introduced to the owner Steve, Gerry the lead mechanic and several others. We had dinner and a pre-ride briefing. “J” was Joe’s sweeper on this ride to help keep track of riders and, like Joe, is a great guy. This was a real deal tour of Baja and I think it would be very difficult to find two more enthusiastic and supportive leaders for our group. Joe has a passion for history and provided depth and perspective to the areas, churches, etc that we visited. In addition to their contributions to our trip, I genuinely like and respect both of them and hope to see them again soon, as well as the other great people in our group. This trip to Baja was my first into the non-tourist areas and I quickly understood why Joe preferred these destinations. The natural beauty, the kindness and generosity of the locals and the AMAZING food were epic. I highly encourage anyone interested to get an RX3 and go. It wasn’t easy, there are long days of riding, but that is the price you pay to see and do the things we did. Any questions about the trip, let me know. And by the way, my orange 2016 was a blast on and off road. Cheers!

I would definitely do that if I still lived in Phoenix. They can drive over to SoCal over the weekend and pick up a CSC.
Not very likely that i can pull it off now.

Rideabout, glad that you made the trip! Which of the CSC posse are you?

Sorry that it was colder than typical, were you running heated gear? I know the RX3 alternator can handle it.

Full trip, how many miles?

I was in Irvine for a conference, and then hit the road to visit my wife and kids in Yuma on Sunday. While on the 8 on March 19 (yesterday), I wondered if you guys had crossed the border already; if I had been able to time it better, I could have met up with you guys at the Tecate crossing, but then again, I am quite sure you guys were ready to just get your cold butts back to Azuza at that point.

Hi Jay, I played the part of Captain Dave on the trip ��. No heated gear, I fortunately brought a down jacket, pant liner and rain gloves so I was comfortable enough although not actually warm at times. The heated grips are nice but don’t seem to help your core temp much. Another rider had a heated jacket that he loved and also seemed to ease the aches and pains of long mileage days. I believe he said it was a “Hotwire” brand and came with all controllers.

Culcune, the Tecate crossing was really easy as Joe knew of a motorcycle short cut.

Howdy blackbike,
We were fortunate to have a fluent Spanish speaker as part of the team. I worked on improving my poor Spanish skills as much as possible!

wheelbender, Orlando and Velma came from Texas to CSC shop and bought a RX3 then rode 2 up with us on last years Destination Deals ride and they had a hoot. We enjoyed their company very much. I think they flew into LA, rode the bike on trip ,then flew home again and had bike delivered via truck. rj
