Valves out of spec?

Hi all. I just wanted to ask a quick question about how many people found their valves to be out of spec at 500 miles. That is when CSC says to do the first valve adjustment, so I was just curious how many found they needed to adjustment any valves. If you did which ones. Thanks all.

I just did mine for the first time yesterday & right around the 500 mile-ish mark. I found them very much on the loose side.

Intake found 0.13mm & left 0.06mm
Exhaust found 0.15mm & left 0.06mm

This still seem on the tight side to me compared to all the other other bikes I've set valves on in the last 15 years but I'll go with the OEM recoemdation. Though I might consider checking them again at 1,500 miles just to be sure.

Thanks 3banger, it helps to compile people's experience and findings. That way we can see if any trends are out there. It should also help CSC develop their recommendations over time as to service intervals

My valves were tight. I think it is wise to check the valve lash at 500 miles, or very shortly thereafter.

I checked the valve lash again, after an additional 2,500 miles, and they had not moved from the first adjustment. I consider this a very good sign.

Thanks fisherman10 for your input. It looks like most people so far are finding that their valves are a little on the tight side.

Just did my valves and found all of mine loose at .006" that is 3 times the optimum clearance of .002" !!! I decide to set them all at .003"
My bike has 880 miles.
I found it much easier to just remove the right side radiator for the exhaust valves.
Also it helps if your setting at .003" then a .004" will not go in and then you know you're spot on.

To clarify: .05mm=.002"

A mistake I made was putting the intake valve cover upside down.
You can't really tell because it will go upside down but it will leak oil.
One way to be sure is the number ID on the inside of the cover goes up.

X2. And I take the coolant overflow bottle off completely for more room. Unscrew the lower mount screw, lift the bottle off the upper tab, and unscrew it from the cap. BTW you don't need to move the gas tank if all you are checking are the exhaust valves. (I know, why would you only check exhaust valves?)
