The Honda CB650R can be de-tuned by Honda from 94hp to around 50-60hp for people with restricted licenses. It's known as the A2 tune. Nothing is different about the bike at all, except the ECU only opens the throttle part ways, so WOT is now 60-70% throttle. Even my VFR came with throttle restrictions in first through third gear in the EU, which limited power output to only 100hp. Full power was only available in 4th-6th, and 6th has an RPM limiter for top speed.

This makes me think...
becuase most of these big guns stay silent on what HP is they are setting for various markets specially when it comes to Dual sports or motocross and let the professional riders figure out them self...
secondly if the nuetered is done electronically to keep the bike less on the maintaince side that means this is some what unloackable stuff ? just like the super bikes which are limited to 299 ? I am just wondering not thinging to remove the restrictions even these 40 horse are not fully used by a pony rider like me... lol

It is similar to the reason Kawasaki made a 65hp 250cc 4cyl sport bike (ZX25R) for the Malaysian and other SE Asian markets. They have huge taxes on bikes over 250cc, so they get around it by making a very high output 250cc sport bike. They will never sell that bike here in the U.S. because nobody here would pay $11,000 for a 250cc sport bike, well... besides me, but I am weird. If you took an EU market CRF450L and put a U.S. spec ECU tune on it, it would make the same power as the U.S. Market bikes. That is assuming that it doesn't have a different fuel injector or other mechanical changes (not likely, but possible).

They are neutered to follow European Emissions standards, which are quite restrictive. So they have to de tune the engines. Here we are using Euro 5 and we have the same issues than Europeans detuned motorcycle that need to be tuned back
A good of example of the limitations of Euro standards, 2T they are gone from the roads. You can't make a street legal 2T, only grandfathered street legal 2T. If not mistaken in the US you can take a 2T KTM and make it street legal. That's just available in countries that use EU emissions standards Aprilia RS125 and the Yamaha DT125 are some of the most populars motorcycles in their own segments for the Euro and Latam markets. YET both of them were "killed" The RS 125 now is a 4T that can barely reach 110 km/h while the 2T top speed was 170 km/h The DT 125 a very fun enduro motorcycle to ride off-road with a 140 km/h top speed, now replaced by the XTZ 125 that also struggles to reach 107 km/h Quote:
For example my Toyota Hilux had bosch fuel injectors while on less restrictive markets they have Denso ones. |

Last GLimpse of LX450
So The Bike has gone to new Home.... now I am homing down to pitspro gpx450 which is loaded with NC450
as NC450 is a tailored more for long range and actual dual sports purpose... so I assume it will be more humble and I hope it would be far more forgiving the LX450... I will be closing this thread with these remarks that LX450 was all fun for me and served well ... but wasnt an excellent choice on highway some times due to absense of 6th gear .... secondly now I want to have a taste of an EFI NC so.... Good bye mean machine.
