Kind of wondering what management has up their sleeves.
Harold called this morning while I’m on a job site to tell me that there will be an extra $1500 in my next paycheck. Ostensibly as a bonus for the ungodly amount of travel I’ve done during the pandemic. Hmmm…spidey senses are tingling.

OTOH, great timing. I need dental bridgework and that ain’t cheap.

That exact phrase describes my entire ownership experience with my Ducati motorcycle. Luckily, I owned the Ducati when I was stationed in Italy, and it was insanely cheap to keep in the shop. I would seriously ride it on the weekend, then it would have to go to the shop and stay there all week to get fixed, and then I would ride it on the weekend again, and then, you guessed it, I would be putting it back in the shop on Monday... Break, rinse, repeat... For some reason, keeping oil on the inside of those things was damn near impossible...

Not too bad of a week last week. I was dealing with a new machine out of our Italian factory. It was immaculate. Too bad it didn't work. Or maybe it did. Something funky with the remote controlled Palfinger crane was throwing safety warnings and shutting things down. I was told that it worked in Italy. There are by-passes that I had to use to get the damn thing to move and indoors so Jason and the new guy can have at it tomorrow. I knocked out the bulk of the initial punch list. The Palfinger is all Can-Bus, which rates a middle finger from me.

High point, though, was the generational differences between the new guy, Jason, and myself. Jason and the new guy can work with Can-Bus, I can't and won't. However, Jason and I both read, and write, cursive. The new guy cannot. Jason took him to a restaurant where the menu was in cursive and Matt got pissy because he couldn't read it. Matt sent me a pic of the menu and asked me if I could read it. I texted back that the Orange Roughy with cheese sauce and fresh veggies sounded tasty. He texted back a middle finger emoji.

In Denver this week to finish up rewiring the rodent damaged machine. Imagine my surprise when I removed the panel to start on the job and the little SOB moved back in and destroyed everything that was repaired back in December. I told the customer when we left that they needed to throw some mothballs in the cab if they weren’t going to park it inside.

Guess they didn’t.

Yakking with one of my Canadian cohorts this morning and he says, “No one ever told you that Anger Management was a big part of this job when you hired on.”

Hoping I got through to one of the mouth breathers in Hell this morning.

More problems with the 360 that was missing the bushings. Failing pump. A new pump was requested last Friday to be shipped to Matt on Tuesday, for Monday delivery. Today, we are told that the only new pump in house was stored outside and is a ball of rust. Why are we being told this today when things were supposed to ship Tuesday?

But wait, there's more! Inventory that was done last month showed we had two pumps in stock. Where's the other $14,000.00 pump!?

To shorten this up, another pump was located in Savannah, GA and it's being shipped to Matt, now for Tuesday delivery. The mouth breather calls me and asks me if he can save a few bucks by having the pump delivered on Wednesday. I replied with, "I don't know how many bucks you think you are going to save because Matt and I will be there on Monday. That's two nights, each, in a hotel with nothing getting done. That's twelve meals on the company dime because we can't work. Your saving $100 upfront on shipping is easily costing the company $1000 on the back end. Understand?" All I got was "Oh, okay. It will be there Tuesday."

I actually had this same argument with Marlene and Harold many times back in the Elgin days. I was somewhat successful in getting those two to start seeing the big picture.

Well, other than six hours of driving Tuesday for an hour and half of work, I've been working from home this week. Next week promises to be interesting.

Last week wasn't dreadful, but it wasn't rainbows and unicorns, either. While Matt drove home to pick up the new pump, I had the old one out and on the ground before he got back. We installed the new pump that same afternoon and I let Matt plumb it the next morning. Set the pressures and it's all good. What I don't understand is that I've never had to replace these pumps until crap started being built in Beaufort. I'm afraid it's going to be every one of those machines, too.

On the plus side, I've gone from three days to replace a pump to one. On the downside, as of Feb 28, I was two flights short of making it to American Airlines Executive Platinum status. I'm top o' the heap with Avis, Hilton, and IHG. Executive Platinum would have been nice but not the end of the world. Still batting a thousand on first class upgrades this year, so not crying over it.

Less than four months to go, anyway.

Lol. What's the experience you guys require? I wouldn't mind trying my hand at your job. I could get all GSM2 Winn on them when they mess up.
