When my Hawk got "broke in" the first place I took it was over to my life long friend Rooney's house and sat on his porch waiting for him to get off work. When he pulled up and got out of the truck I said "look what I got" and he responded "yeah shut up I'm taking it for a spin" and disappeared for a good 20 minutes. He was impressed by the value and obviously liked it because he took it for 2 more rides after, but the first words outta his mouth were "reminds me of the XR 200, just a little slower taking off". Now I value his opinion because he is a dyed in the wool Honda fan and introduced me to most of the XR models and the ATC 200X which I later bought 2 of.

Sorry about rambling on but if that motor is Honda based and has an overhead cam I'm sure you can get an aftermarket cam for it, and it probably has bigger valves to begin with. Even my FourTrax 200D probably puts out more than the CG engine and my modded 200X was a fire breathing dragon compared to the Hawk.

And as Dan said, a CB will keep gaining horsepower with rpm, but the CG peters out after a certain rpm.

I was joking about destroying it part. Was going to rebuild the top end when it died but now am going top swap. I wasn't joking about when I said it probably never will. Who knows, you can probably get over 50k on these motors.

Damn it! Wish I knew about this motor before! Someone was selling a CRF250 frame as a rolling chassis for only $75. I wish I jumped on it. Seems like this would have been a fun motor to throw into it.

Just no 6th gear.
At that cost etc you’d be better off with the Apollo bike with another 223cc OHC engine in it and I’d think that engine be available in the USA if the sellers weren’t so greedy
I posted long ago - engines $300ish DHL $325ish plus some profit etc
Wait, are you say we could get a motor from you for a bit over $300?

If so, what model motor? Would kill for a nice overhead cam engine for a project I am thinking about.

Ok I just pulled the trigger on this Loncin engine. I bought the one with the wiring harness also just in case. Was only like 18 dollars more. Now will have to wait and see if and when it shows up. Ill be doing a video on the process and a review afterwards. Hopefully its worth it. Maybe a tad more power + the 6 speed should make me happy. Its probably not worth the price but Im pretty happy with my Hawk and if this can keep me happy for another year or two and not wanting to upgrade it will be worth it.

I agree with Jerry, definitely report on how this goes please. I am very seriously looking to purchase one of these motors with some plans in mind and was actually going to take the leap myself.

No big Dan, you're planning on selling your immaculately enhanced Hawk to purchase the POS twin Jerry posted. Which is infact a moped dressed up to be a rice rocket..

I can't remember the designation of the counterbalanced Honda vertical twin, I think it was a CM400, but it was the first street bike I ever fully disassembled. But I owned a CB400 that was a mean little bike with a 4 into 1 header and drag bars that I rode 1000 miles each way to attend bike week in Daytona Florida (most uncomfortable bike ride of my life).

But the difference was night and day. The CB was a mean little canyon carver and the CM was a noisy moped.

It is either that or build up this motor to make around 25hp. Which would cost me less money than buying the twin. All the minute details aside, I know it can be done 😉

I saw a hawk like bike online export version with a copy Honda AX1 engine in it
Shineray engine and much better looking back end
$1100 I think they wanted for it.
See the odd export version bike for sale but often to nearly all can’t be legally used on the road etc

Im hoping its a plug and play swap. Modifying a bracket or two would be no big deal either. Im just curious if the new engine / transmission will have the electrical connections for the aftermarket digital speedo I have to provide gear info like the current setup. I would hate to lose that feature alone. If I remember right the digital speedo even has an input wire for 6th gear so that is a plus. As of now the arrival estimate is mid November to mid December. Hopefully its much faster than that.

I'm buying a Vitacci Pentora sport quad in the near future and it comes with a Loncin OHC 250cc. Is this the same motor as the RE 250? Other than the ATV transmission ofcourse.
