Don't tease him! Actually get him some BBQ!

Buford just fits into his new carrier. He had no objections to it. Actually went right in.

Good to know.

Your advanced planning witll make this easier on him and on you.

He may make it easy.

My cats and I have been with Linda and her DLO for 2 weeks now and everyone seems to be great and the cats adjusted in about a day. I was pleasantly surprised. Prayer helps...

Soon, this week I'm sure, they will move into the new house.

I hope that goes just as well.

Buford will adjust quickly to a new location. He will have plently of space to watch birds.

I think he liked the carrier.

Having been through an eight hour drive with two non car friendly felines, I can tell you that Buford will eventually calm down and enjoy the ride, even without meds.

I was thinking the first hour would be the worst.

Not kidding. My cats eventually started to purr, and they never stopped (unless they were asleep).

That's amazing!

Incidentally, cats purr when they are in a social mood, not when they are happy. For example, a cat will purr while it is trying to escape a little girl who has dressed it up in a baby carriage. Purring is a cat's way of saying it likes you, and it is amenable to social activity with humans, or other cats. However, the cat is not necessarily "happy" whenever it is purring. I learned this tidbit of information while reading a book on animal behavior many years ago.

That's great. Give Buford some BBQ and a few birds to watch, and he will think Kansas is feline heaven!

Yeppers.

A cat will also purr to calm itself.

Wiki is your friend. I just googled the following information.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purr

"Cats often purr when being petted, becoming relaxed, or when eating. Female cats are known to sometimes purr while giving birth. Domestic cats have been reported to purr when injured, sick, in pain or dying. Purring may have developed as a signalling mechanism between mother cats and nursing kittens. One theory is that it is not a sign of showing relaxation or content, but an attempt at "friendship" or a signal of "specific intent". For example, when a cat is nervous and cannot escape the situation (at a veterinarian perhaps), its purr may serve as an attempt to avoid being hurt. German ethologist and cat behaviorist Paul Leyhausen interprets it as a signal that the animal is not posing a threat...

...Another theory states that purring triggers a cat's brain to release a hormone which helps it in relaxing and acts as a pain killer. This may be a reason why cats purr when distressed or in labour..."

One can learn a lot of different things at China Riders!

Buford says my two previous posts are required reading for all cat owners.

I also read somewhere only kitty-cats purr. Lions, tigers, bobcats etc. do not.
