Yes, both Pitster Pro and Xingyue list the engine as 387cc output, W&G.

I'll have to use this opportunity to show Son of Weldangrind that he really will use the math he's learning now.

I wonder what sort of mods are needed to get the Rotax top end to fit? I'm not about to liquid-cool my XR, but I am curious.

Good job, Dad! You could ask Xingyue to reveal their secrets; however, it seems difficult to even get spare parts from Xingyue. :(

Thread from hell is back!

Pictures first:

Weld and Grind was kind enough to sport me a stator cover from some flavor of honda that is a 1:1 match to the pitster 400. If you notice the center engine shaft bolt cover is tore up from the floor up and was impossibe to remove - until my 10 year old daughter told me to get a 1/2 chisel, some vice grips, and use heat . I got the center cap off in about 45 mins. Here is a before pic:

This morning I spent like 4 hours sanding this puppy. It was in pretty bad shape, but here is an 'after pic'

Here is the cover with about 8 coats of Krylon flat black:

As soon as it is dry I need to flip it and paint the back side. One that is handled I'll put the whole puppy back together and move on! I forgot to wear a mask when sanding so I've had a perpetual nose bleed going on like 5 hours now. Safety Tip: Wear a mask when sanding! I wore hearing protection and safety goggles with thick leather gloves tho .

I don't think I would paint the inside of the stator cover. I believe the stator is bathed in hot engine oil.

I agree with Spud's logic. I presume that the cover is aluminum, so there's no rust concern.

Glad to hear that the inspection plug came out. When Son of Weldangrind was a little tyke, he guided me towards using different tools to test an ignition module, and he was exactly right. Gotta love how kids approach things from a fresh angle.

I'm just painting the outside part - like the original. On the back side there is a small area between the starter and the stator area that needed to be painted (I guess it would bug me knowing it wasn't done - OCD to the rescue!)

I think the proof will be in the pudding as it were. I've seen so many things that shoud have worked, but didn't. I'm taking some extra effort this go around to be 100% positive that if it doesn't work it was something I did and not the fact that it didn't fit. Oh, and it is official, I have every color gasket material they make with the purchase of the gray stuff for the wiring cluster that comes out of the cover.

Copy that. I also would have used an engine specific paint to better take the heat. You'll have to see how well it holds up. A great alternative would be satin black powdercoat.
