My 83 200x had this same setup. I ran 6-7psi on it. I thought about doing it on my Hawk too.

Oops need a few parts

Well i rode the poor TaoTao pretty hard today and i must say she's a tough little bike. The trails i ran today were rough washed out and very steep with lots of rocks. The gearing is pretty good even in the rough stuff but i did break my crappy plastic hand guard and my gear shift lever. so what i need is :

A quality folding gear shift lever.

A set of hand guards in white color.

A set of better mirrors .(do not hold position even though i have tightened the poo out of the screw at the pivot point.

A main jet for the stock pw30 sealed carb. ( because of elevation the idle jet and needle seem ok but i would like to replace the main jet until i buy another carb (will do head mods etc first).

Can anyone point me in the right direction with links to the parts they would recommend.

I have a pair of these handguards in black that seem to be holding up well. They're pretty stout.

Check the diameter of the shift shaft. It should be the same as most of these china bikes. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055DPMFK...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Your the man Jerry. those handguards look great , in fact look similar to the factory ones that came with my bike but are reinforced with aluminum bar by the look of it . the ones that came on the bike looked the look but were just made of cheap hard plastic (A china bike thing i guess ). I took a photo of the shift shaft too.

Are the stock mirrors from a tt250 or an rx3 of better quality as it seems ordering from csc is the way to go compared to other places. My mirrors go out of adjustment riding on paved roads let along on dirt tracks.

Handguards on the way from ebay ( white color )
Gearshift lever on the way from amazon.
Also ordered a vm26 carb assy plus 12 pilot and 12 main jets (had 2 smaller jet options than the 10 packs , just in case because of the high elevation i'm riding at.
ordered a pair of mirrors from hoosier garage that had good write ups for quality and several write ups from dual sport riders so we will see.

Paul,
I just saw your picture of the shaft measurement. Looks like yours is 10mm. The Hawk and TT250 shift shaft is 11mm so it will be too big for your bike. If it doesn't work out let me know. I still have the stock shifter in my Hawk that has been bent a few times so will need replacing eventually.

Looks like it reads as 11mm to me. Did you read the edge instead of the Zero mark by mistake?

Thanks for your concern. i could send you my used reading glasses but they will need replacing Boy i sure hope you have a good sense of humor.

Again, thank you, i really appreciate the tips as it saved me a bunch of time looking for parts especially when you read some of the lousy descriptions and you start second guessing if it will work or not.

Eg. Folding gear shift lever ...fits all hondas ever made ; most kawasaki's, 3 models of suzuki , some yamaha's can be used on the c5 corvette and may fit the bugatti veyron. This gear lever does not fold. comes with a lifetime warranty unless you actually bolt it to the bike.

A bit of silly humor to brighten up your day.

I don't think it was so much the glasses. Its more like I hadn't had my cup of coffee yet. Lol
That's what I like about this forum. Somebody has been there and done that which saved a whole lot of water time.

New tbr7 today.

Hey all I have a new tbr7 I got today and I assembled fine and the bike runs ok. I am having a weird issue. The bike seems to loss power at about half throttle and putters out. It runs great up to that. I live at about 3k ft. Any ideas? I may am not very carb technical. Willing to learn though.

You have come to the right place. @Jerryhawk and @Megadan are the guys that have been there and done that and are very helpful with their valuable info and they share freely.

It sounds like all of these bikes are jetted very lean (too much air and not enough fuel ) and to make matters worse they sealed the carb with tamper proof screws on the fuel bowl and idle air mixture screw( not the screw on the side to turn the idle higher or lower ). I was lucky with my carb as i live at 6000ft and even so it runs lean at the top end.

The info and even you tubes are available to help you through this problem. Start a new thread on the dual sport thread and ask your question and the guys will give you the links you need to modify your carb or a link to a better carb with changeable jets ( i have just ordered a cheap vm26 carb plus exra jets for mine).

You really should read and do some basic stuff ( change the engine oil asap plus a bunch of other things that will make your bike more reliable from the gitgo. Again Megadan and Jerryhawk will help a lot.

Good luck and enjoy
Paul

Welcome to the forum . More than likely it's running lean and will need tuning. Read the sticky at the top of the dual sport section. It will guide you through what to look out for and needs to be done. http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=20331

You may or may not need to deal with the carb initially; have you done the valves?
