Got an email this morning from the guy in Finland who built the new CDI for my bike. He is building ver. 1.2 and sending me one to evaluate and compare it against ver 1.1. He feels I can rack up more miles, at higher speeds, in the season than he can and we'll be able to compare notes.
Looks like he'll be on the road before me this year, though. Finland has had the mildest winter in memory and Lahti, where he lives, has no snow on the ground. We got another 6" of the white crap again. Oh, well. March 22nd, the fuel tank comes off for spring prep. New coils, Iridium plugs, new temp sender, oil + filter, UNI air filter, oil change on the final drive. I want to be ready for that first ice free day. Also singing up for the MSF Advanced Rider Course in May.

The MSF course is an excellent idea.
Does the guy in Finland want specific data? How will you quantify the difference with V 1.2? When I lived in the land of ice and snow, the first ice-free day wasn't sufficient. If we didn't wait until the streets were swept, we'd crash during turns. Ask me how I know.

I went down in the driveway on the Fat Bike this morning. One of those S L O W motion crashes.
Weld, this will be a 'comparison' study. Most likely run the current unit for 10 days, keeping track of miles ridden, fuel consumption, ambient temp, average speed*. Then do the same with ver. 1.2. Run the test for a few months. Compare notes. Ver. 1.2 has some tighter tolerance components in it and the main reason for the testing is to see if the 'improvements' are worth the cost. *I'll be using a bar mounted Garmin Legend for miles ridden/ave.speed. Not going to trust a 35 year old mechanical speedo.

Just wondered what sort of data he was seeking. I'm with you on using the GPS, but even an inaccurate speedo can quantify a difference, as long as it is consistent. I guess that's the wildcard.

Woo Hoo, got out today for a ride to work and back. Probably the only day this week, too. Rain and/or snow for the rest of the week.
I replaced the coils and plugs, along with the oil on Sunday. The new coils are about half the size of the original and presented a bit of a problem with mounting, but got around it. Bike sure starts easier now. The bike ran great into work, not so great on the way home. Low speed miss. Could be a piece of crud in one of the carbs, because it screams when I go WOT. Something to ponder while I'm wistfully looking out the window at the white crap falling from the sky.

There was a 50% chance of snow for Friday but that has now changed to rain. Just like tomorrow and Thursday.

We had a little snowfall today, but it didn't stick to the ground. We might receive similar snowfall tomorrow, but after that the weather is warming up. We should see temperatures in the 60s next week!

I agree; it sounds good, Cheesy. Those mufflers look exactly like the mufflers on my first motorcycle, a 1979 Honda Hawk II.

Thanks, guys. Sounds better than it did Tuesday night. Carb boot clamps loosened up a bit, so I had a slight vacuum leak.
I sent the video to the guy in Finland I do Beta testing for and he wants to know how I got it to run so smooth. He says his bike is newer(1981), has less miles(17,000), and doesn't run as nice. I didn't tell him about my the GL650 another bud has. The GL purrs where my growls.
