Not this time. Had to struggle on my own.

Good score at HF!

I have a similar lift and it works well. Lifts the Harley no problem. The only thing I don't like about it is it has no place to anchor tie downs to secure the bike. I should get some welded on to mine.

I love Harbor Freight! Weld got to visit the HF in SpudLand when he visited.

Spud-My Dad would visit more often if I told him a HF opened near me. So far, in deference to Mom, I haven't.

Doc-My lift has loops for tie downs.

Applied for membership in the Antique Motorcycle Club of America this week. Got accepted, so I guess my money was okay.

The Maggot has to wait until January, though, when it turns 35. * BTW, ticked over 3000 miles since I got the bike back together last April. Bulk of that has been since I dumped my bicycle in June and boogered up my right knee. MRI on that next month.

*Gads, that how old my kid will be next year. I am an old fart.

I guess being know as an 'experienced venter' is better than being know as an 'educated rectum'.

Whew, that was close.

Tuesday, the Maggot started missing at low speeds, felt like a vacuum leak. It was. The rubber caps on the vacuum gauge test ports had dry-rotted. I couldn't find the extra caps I had, so I just put the stock plugs back in for the time being. Did some other bits of maintenance, including a couple WOT checks and called it a day.

Yesterday, it was 24F when I left for work on the bike. The top end was sounding like an old Singer sewing machine and I figured it was just the cold weather but it was still noisy when I got to the shop. I was a bit chilled so I just went to my office for a cup or four of very hot coffee and forgot about it.

When I left for home late in the afternoon, the top end was sounding worse so I figured I'd better check it out. Couldn't do anything last night, Wednesday is Costco night, so I pulled the valve covers tonight. Glad I did.

The left cylinder had one of the two intake tappet adjusters lying loose by one of the valve springs. That was bad enough. The right cylinder had had one intake adjuster loose and one had fallen out. Of the one that fell out, I only found the nut. Ain't that just craptastic. I searched for it for several minutes and finally spotted it at the bottom of the oil return passage. So, I grabbed a pencil magnet and slowly eased it down the oil passage and instantly dropped the magnet. I just stared at it while images of having to drop the engine again went through my mind. I tried several different sizes of needle nose pliers with no luck. I hit on the idea of using a very fine pair of forceps to latch onto the magnet and got it out on the second try. Whew!

I was going to do a valve adjustment when I put the bike away for the winter but I ended up doing it tonight. Used a torque wrench, too.

I have an over night camping trip this weekend and want to get as much riding in before the knee gets hacked.

BTW, besides joining the AMCA, I also joined the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club. The VJMC asked for stories about owners bikes for their bi-monthly magazine (very nice) and I submitted one. It was accepted and will be printed in a future issue. I made mention of a certain Chinabike in the story, too.

Wow! I'm glad you found all of the pieces.

My buddy had an old XR250R, and he failed to properly tighten the adjusters after setting the valves. The case halves had to be split. :(

'So, I grabbed a pencil magnet and slowly eased it down the oil passage and instantly dropped the magnet.'

You mean that doesn't only happen to me, stuff like that??

Glad it's sorted, and amazed that it ran. Is that a 4 valve/cylinder engine?

You don't that during 'ahem' exams, do you?
